[Seattle Go Center] SGC Opening Party, Lightning Tournament, and Usual Tuesday Goodness

NEXT WEEK, 03 OCT, not tomorrow, we will have an opening party!!!

SGC is mostly settled in, and we want to celebrate a speedy re-opening with a party event.  We've been getting good turn out the first couple of weeks, but let's anoint our new space with some food and drink and Go playing.  Also, River and Kyle thought it would be fun to have a little lightning tournament for anyone who wants to participate, probably something like 5 min main time and 3x10s byouyomi, maybe 3 rounds (we can decide on the spot 🙂).

03 OCT, Tue, we will have some food and drinks out from 6:00 onward.  We will get a banquet license for BYOB and provide a little nihonshu and beer (Ridgewood Bottle and Tap is "across the street" if you want to bring something, conveniently on your way from the parking lot).

It will be fun to see lots of folks, maybe some old timers will show up for reconnecting, and we'll continue to attract new folks (so far so good at the new location).

SPECIAL NOTE ... we will be raffling a floor goban this fall, and it will be on display 03 OCT.  More on that in another email later this week.

Looking forward to a big turnout!!

Cheers,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Womens+ Night

Hi everyone, River here, just wanted to check base with everyone and see how people felt about the return of Women+ Night.  We originally had every second Sunday of each month, 6-9pm.  Attendance took a nose dive around April, and with other issues this summer, we postponed it to fall.  If you want to see us bring back Women+ Night, please send mail to River.Leonard@seattlego.org and let me know what time slots are good for you.

[Seattle Go Center] Call for Volunteers: Bellevue College Japan Week (looking for 2 more volunteers)

 Hello Go Players,

We are still in need of 2-3 voulnteers for Bellevue College's Japan Week on September 30, 9am to 5pm. This is a mid-sized event and tends to be a more relax event with people in costumes, some live musical performances and a number of different presentations. The event is also hosting an outdoor Go game which they are still looking for volunteers to help run if you are interest.

I know with your help we can make sure that this years outreach at Bellevue College will be sucess and shows several people the joy of Go for the first time

Thanks

Hello Go Players,

As fall approaches Bellevue College's Japan Week yearly festival is approaching.  It is open to the public Saturday September 30, 9am to 5pm.  This is a medium size event, and last year we taught Go to over 50 people.  The event is at 3000 Landerholm Cir SE, Bellevue, WA.

This year I am hoping to get 2 people to help with setting up the day before and 4-6 volunteers to teach people totally new to the game on 30 SEP.  If you are free to help with set up or teaching, please email me with the best way to contact you and when you are available to help.

I will bring plain and flavored waters for volunteers, but for lunch and snacks, please bring some food or buy something from the event.

The Japan Fair is also hosting an outdoor Go game, and looking for volunteers. If this sounds like fun and you like to help out, please sign up for "Outside Go Game" on the Japan Week's Volunteer Page (https://forms.gle/1GsMHKF6T3LmbbCK6).

Last year's Japan Week was a major success, and I know with your help we can make this year's event fun and engaging too.

[Seattle Go Center] Reminder First Meetup at Stoup Capitol HIll Tonight

David Glekel is hosting a Go meetup at Stoup Pub in Cap HIll every Wed at 7pm.  Tonight is the first night.  He has 2-3 sets to bring, but bring a portable board and stones if it is easy to bring them.

Hope this helps more folks access in-person games on different evenings or using the light rail or for whatever reason 🙂.

Cheers,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] SGC Open and New Meetups

I think the word is out that SGC re-opened Tue of this week 🙂.  We've received lots of positive feedback.  Thank you.  Great to see a strong turnout, some old folks, some new.  We're back to regular hours, so we will be open Sat 1-6pm in our new location (see seattlego.org/directions or google "seattle go center" to see a pin at our new entrance).

Emma continues her meetup through the school year, every Sat, 2-5pm, gathering at Crossroads Mall's food court near the library.  Please bring equipment if you have it this week while SGC works with Emma to get her a couple more boards.

David Glekel, one of our PPI teachers, is starting a new meetup at Stoup Brewing on Capital Hill on Wednesday nights.  He will begin hosting 20 SEP at 7pm.  SGC will give him a couple of boards, but in general when going to a meet up, you should consider bringing your own board and stones to ensure everyone who wants to play has equipment.

Cheers!!
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Seattle Go Center Officially Re-opening !!!

Yay, Hey, all, we have just confirmed we are moving to Phinney Community Center, and we are re-opening 12 SEP, Tue, for normal hours.  We will also be open 16 SEP, Sat, for normal hours.  We are still working out the status of the Wed class, and we are still looking at bringing back Kids Time and Women+ Night in OCT (please send feedback if you have a desire for those programs fall through spring time).

I will update the website today as well.  Please note, use this address for google maps, 6611 Dayton Av N, because the official PNA address is off due to the size of their campus.  Also, there is free parking in both parking lots of PNA.  The 5 Line and E Line buses run frequently near PNA.  We will also have some yellow sandwich signs out in the parking lots that will direct you to our new entrance.  I've also tried to declare a pin for google maps at our new entrance.

The Zoka group continues to meet Mon mornings, and Emma is continuing her Crossroads meetup Saturdays (yes, I'll be adding Emma's meetup to our regular meetups on the home page).

This coming week is a bit of a soft opening and getting our legs back, but stay tuned for a site warming party and possibly a lightning tournament or something fun once we settle in and unpack.

Cheers,
Bill
