[Seattle Go Center] Open Tue, Meet Pro Candidates, Closed Wed-Mon, 01-06 JUL

We are open as usual on Tue.  There is a pro qual candidates meeting at 7pm.

Last reminder that pro quals are this week at SGC 01-06 JUL.  Thanks very much to the several volunteers who will be recording games.  Hot off the press is that they now want to live stream video of the players and board in addition to the game recording, so assume we have power and  can set that up, there will be more viewing possibility.  The schedule is:
 * Wed-Thur 10am and 3pm game starts, 4 boards each round, 10 candidates round-robin
 * Fri 10am game start, 4 boards, 10 candidates final round-robin round
 * Sat 10am and 3pm game start, 2 boards, top 4 players, best of 3 for each pair of opponents
 * Sun 10am and 3pm game start, one semi final round, one final round of top 2 players
 * Mon 10am and (opt) 3pm game start, final rounds, best of 3 games between top 2 players

You are still welcome to come to SGC to watch games (with silenced phones or possibly phones checked at the doorway), but there will be restrictions on how close you can get to players and on bodily noises, exhalations, nodding, shaking the head, or any stimulus that could impact a players concentration or thoughts on the game.  Yes, we know they are stronger than almost all of us, and they are supposedly pro level in concentration and clarity on their own game, but we can't be open to claims of game impact or influence.

Cheers,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Looking for Volunteers Bon Odori (July 18-19th)

Hello Go players,

Bon Odori is coming up this year. This is a regular event and we are looking to do even more this year than last with both and indoor informational booth and outdoor booth for lessons and gameplay. I need 6-8 volunteers to make this happen.

Bon Odori is located at Seattle Betsuin Buddhist Temple (1427 South Main St, Seattle, WA 98144) and is on July 18th and 19th. It’s an evening event running 3pm-9pm. It’s a very fun event with dancing in the streets, Japanese Festival food, and more. Volunteers get access to break room with free food and a voucher for some Food vendor. I personally find it a very fun event.

If you like to reach out and help or have question, please reach out to me by either email or in person.

[Seattle Go Center] Pro Qual Notes and SGC Closures -- 04-06 JUL

Hello, as you know from past messages, the NAGF is hold the North American pro qualifiers in Seattle 01-06 JUL.  Thanks to those who volunteered to be game recorders!!  Folks are welcome to stop by and watch the games, but of course, there will be strict rules on noise, conversations, phone usage, speaking to competitors while games are in progress, etc.  Games will start at 10am and 3pm each day, except Fri, 03 JUL, there is a break in the afternoon and no games.  We aren't expecting any "dignitaries" (AGA president, Canadian GA president, EJ, Hajin, etc., nor Redmond Sensei who was just here) in case you had hopes of meeting any f2f.

SGC will be closed Sat-Mon, 04-06 JUL, for normal play and study open times due to semi final and final games.  There will be no ratings tournament in JUL due to the pro quals.

If you have any questions, please let us know.

Cheers,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] LAST CALL: Game Recorders or Homestay ?

We still could use one more person on Thurs, Fri, and Sat.  Thanks to all that volunteered!!

Eric Yoder and Jeremiah Donley asked if anyone was willing to host them from 30 JUN - 07 JUL (or possibly less time if they are eliminated).  If you want to host a pro candidate (and if you prefer one over the other), please let me know, and I'll connect you with one of them.

All games are at SGC in the main room.  You just need a laptop.  You'll log into OGS with an AGA account.

Thanks,
Bill

Subject: A Few More Game Recorders Please

Thanks very much to the several folks who signed up to record pro qualifier games for the AGA/EJournal and live commentary streams.

We could use two more people on Thur and Fri, 02-03 JUL, and one more person on Sat, 04 JUL.  Saturday should be done by 6pm-ish, so still time to get your party on for fireworks 😊.

Even if you came in for recording just a morning or afternoon game, it would help free up Kyle and me to assist Chris in running the tournament.

Thanks,
Bill

Subject: Unique Volunteer Opportunity -- Please Help

Hey, I know "unique volunteer opportunity" sounds like a wonky😊, but this one is actually different than our usual call for volunteers.

As you may recall the North America Go Professionals Qualifiers are being held in Seattle 01-06 JUL.  There are 10 candidates this year.  There will be ~26 games during the pro quals week.

WE NEED GAME RECORDERS.  The EJoural's Chris Garlock and some pros will be commenting on the games live on OGS during the pro qualifier.  We need people who have a laptop and are willing to pay attention for a few hours recording moves and who would be comfortable catching up a couple of moves without interrupting the game (for example, if you had to use the restroom, and no one was standing by to cover for you).

Ideally, we would have 5 volunteers the first few days, then likely only need 2-3 volunteers the last few days.  We can use more volunteers to relieve people or double team to take breaks (or, say, a morning crew and an afternoon crew).

If a high school student were serious and reliable, this could be great volunteer service toward graduation. Must come with own laptop.

This is also good zazen / mindfulness training, not wanting or attached to anything, and the sound of a stone enters your awareness, you record it, and return to your practice of single-pointed emptiness 😊.

Please consider helping out the pro qualifier folks and all the people interested in watching the games and seeing commentary.

Thanks,
Bill
