Hi, all, we're very happy Maeda Sensei said he would visit Seattle Go Center for a two-day workshop.  We will start at noon on Sat, 14 NOV, and go until 5 or 6pm.  Sun we will start at 10am, have a lunch break around noon, then continue until 5 or 6pm.

Admission is $30 for non-voting members (lifetime or annual), and $10 for voting members.  That covers both days.  Sunday, we'll do the pizza lunch order, but you can bring food and put it in one of our fridges.

We can usually get 2-3 pro visits a year, so please take advantage and come study with a pro!!  Thanks to donations and annual members who help keep SGC doors open and fund such events.

Cheers,
Bill

Hi, all, just wanted people to be able to mark your calendars that Maeda Sensei will visit SGC for a two-day workshop 14-15 NOV, so I nice Go intensive before Thanksgiving break.

More info to come in later OCT, but it will be the usual token entrance fees and times.  I should note thanks to folks who donate (including the Nihon Ki-in) and buy annual memberships because the entrance fees barely reduce the costs at all to fly pros to Seattle and care for them.

Hello Go players,

The Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW) has invited us to host a booth at their Bunka no Hi this November 1st (Sunday). The event is located at the JCCCW (1414 S. WELLER ST., SEATTLE, WA 98144) and will go from 11am-5pm

I am looking for 4-5 volunteers to teach attendants the game of Go. It should be more of a midsize event, and there will be lots to enjoy at the event during downtime, such as a Japanese Armor & Sword display, a local Manga artist, Calligraphy, and more.

If you like to help out or learn more about this event, please email me back.

[Seattle Go Center] AGA Seeks Congress Volunteers for 2027

We hope a lot of locals will volunteer for some aspects of helping us host the Go Congress next year.  Even if you're not interested now, if you click the link, you can at least see our graphics for the congress, and yes the stones on the board are the Atomic Bomb Game (several moves ahead of our iconic sign showing the actual state of the board when the bomb hit).

Remember our locals Ken Reppart and Tony Chick are leading the way as tournament directors.  Chris K is helping a lot.  Some other members, staff, and directors have volunteered too.  Many national usual suspects have moved off Boston and are now working on Seattle's Congress next year.

Cheers,
Bill

Hello Go players,

This October 10th, we are returning to Bellevue College for their Japan Week. This is an one day event with a focus of spreading Japanese culture. We are hosting a table indoors from 10am-5pm.  This is a medium size event as we got a little over a hundred attendents last year, and our table space was pretty busy. Because of this, I would really appreciate having 5-6 volunteers for the day. There is also an outdoor event Go game that the college is also hosting and I am looking for another 1-2 volunteers to help with that (please let me know if you want to help with the outdoor game in the email ASAP). Setup should be easy as its indoor event, but I am hopeful that 1-2 people be willing to with setup/taking down.

The event also has a lot of nice little booths and activities that you can check out in your free time such as, Cosplay contest, Origami, Kendama, and other Japanese programs and activities along with japanese food being served in the cafeteria.

If you would like to help with the main event or outdoor go game, or just like to know more about this event please email me.

Subject: [Seattle Go Center] Volunteers needed for Japan Fest in Vashon August 29th
Sent: 2026-08-11 21:27

Hello Go players,

We are returning to Vashon Island's Japan Festival this August 29th. I need 3-4 volunteers to help teach attendees the game of Go and to help with general set up. The event runs from 1pm to 5pm but given travel and need to ferry, there will be carpooling offer with free ferry ride. This will require you to meet at the Seattle Go Center at 9am and expect to get back around 7pm. If you have your own plan for arriving at the event, please let me know about them and plan to arrive at the event at 1pm and stay till 5pm.

Outside the travel issues, this is a very fun smaller event at a farmhouse with lots of fun little booths and some Japanese festival food.

If you can help out or like to learn more about this event or have questions, please email me.

[Seattle Go Center] Seattle Go Congress Update -- Still Looking for Promotional Person

So, yay, Seattle will host the Go Congress 16-25 JUL 2027 at the SeaTac Hilton.  Many deep thanks to people who volunteered already to direct the congress, manage website updates, account for money and pay bills, and logo design!!  The AGA signed contracts, and everything has been official for a few months now.

The last important role we would still like to find someone (or a pair of people) to own is "marketing" the Go Congress, which entails messaging, promoting, and reaching out to community from now until JUL 2027.  This is largely the cadence of updates and exciting reminders via the EJournal to keep the congress on folks minds and encourage attendance.

Here's a draft slide deck Ken and Tony will be presenting in Boston at this years Go Congress to announce next year in Seattle: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/15zCo_AdEkpqACwrliWrT6hinbOgcBocrw4m_U6rZGOM/edit?usp=sharing

The deck is a short and cool reminder of all the things that attract people to Seattle and help make a congress in Seattle extra fun and exciting.  There's a lot a marketing person can easily reach out and post about every couple of months and more often next spring.  You can get as creative as you like, maybe a Mox Boarding House setup at the congress on a day off or afternoon/evening for people to mix up their game playing.  One person wants to host an AI development/usage activity/workshop/hackathon (nothing definite yet), but another idea you could help promote.

If you or you and a friend are willing to help Ken and Tony and be the cheerleaders for a Go Congress in Seattle, please let me know.  I'll connect you to Ken and Tony and our Slack organizing hub.

Thanks!!
Bill
