Dear Go Players,

The Go Center will be open our regular hours today (2-9), but a construction project has closed the sidewalk at the corner.
They are running fiber optic cable to the corner telephone pole. (Good news for 5G cell phone users.)

This is terrible advice, but I think you are going to have to jay walk to get from the express bus stop to the Go Center. Our
parking lot is open, and I recently cleared the storm drain, so I don't think there will be a big puddle in the parking lot.

Hello, fellow Go fans, a few brief announcements.

Reminder - the Go Center is closed to today for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Nick Sibicky's DDK class returns next week, Jan. 27 at 6:30pm, with the Battle of the Nicks!

Wednesdays - DDK to SDK - 6pm
Starting Jan. 22, Jonathan Cheng will be teaching a new (free!) class on Wednesdays: DDK to SDK. Jonathan has taught a similar class before at the Go Center, and we're lucky to have him returning! Jonathan plans to lecture about invasions, tesuji, life and death, and similar things that weaker single-digit kyu players have trouble with. I think this should be particularly helpful for players in the roughly 12k to 5k strength range (and all are welcome to attend).
Jonathan plans to lecture for about an hour, followed by about an hour of game reviews. For the first class: Star point 3-3 joseki and trick moves!

Apr. 10, 11, 12 (Fri-Sun) - 10am-10pm - Sakura-Con - downtown Seattle convention center
Apr. 24, 25, 26 (Fri-Sun) - 10am-6pm - Cherry Blossom Festival - Seattle Center (near Space Needle)
May 16, 17 (Sat-Sun) - 10am-6pm - University District Street Fair
July 11, 12 (Sat-Sun) - 10am-6pm - Japan Fair - Meydenbauer Center, Bellevue
July 18, 19 (Sat-Sun) - 3pm-9pm - Bon Odori festival - Seattle Buddhist Temple (International District)
Plus a couple of events that are not yet confirmed.
- You don't have to attend the entire time. Usually, we break each event into shifts about 4-ish hours long, and you're free to enjoy the rest of the event.
- You don't have to be a *strong* Go player to teach the rules to beginners, and we can coach about what to say. The most important factor is that new players sense your love of the game.

Saturdays - 11am to 8pm
Attendance on Saturdays has fluctuated, and recently it has been pretty busy. This is partly because of the Shogi meetups on the first and third Saturdays (awesome work, Brandon!); and now the Programming Computer Go classes are on Saturdays, 5pm-7pm (great job, Drew!). This past Saturday, we had over 20 people in for casual games, and the week before we had about 50 for the pizza luncheon to honor Dennis Wheeler's years of service to the Seattle Go Center and the American Go Association. (Thank you, Dennis + Vicki!) Tuesdays still tend to be our most popular day, but lately Saturdays also have been a good day to find a game at all levels.
Which reminds me -- the Go Center is opening earlier on Saturdays now, at 11am. (Still closing at 8pm.)
