[Seattle Go Center] New Year's; Jin Chen tournament; Dennis Wheeler lunch; Youth tournament; NerdFaire in Lynnwood; etc.

Hello fellow Go enthusiasts,

I hope your holidays have been full of joy so far!  It was good to be at
the Go Center today after a week, and see 9 other Go players from across
the spectrum of strength.

NYE@SGC, Dec. 31
Tuesday is New Year's Eve, and the Go Center will be open late
(1pm-1am) for a family-friendly non-alcohol New Year's celebration.
Brandon will run a special year-end Shogi meetup starting 1pm.  Chris is
planning to bake his excellent bread, and there will be cake that we cut
into around 9pm.  And if someone reminds me (because I forgot the other
two times I'd meant to), I'll bring out the green tea KitKat bars that
Yuto Tajiri 5-dan brought from the Nihon Ki-in.  I hope you can join us
in finishing 2019 and beginning 2020 on the Go board!  (The Go Center
will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1.)

Jin Chen Tournament, Jan. 5
Sunday Jan. 5, the Go Center will hold the annual Jin Chen
tournament, our biggest tournament of the year.  This tournament has
cash prizes, with the first place prize in the Open section winning
$300.  The Open section is limited to the top 8 players who register.
There will also be cash prizes in the handicapped sections.  There is a
fee of $10 for youth and voting members, and $15 for all others.  The
tournament is AGA rated, so please make sure your AGA membership is up
to date.  Registration is the day of the tournament, from 10:00-10:30 a.m.

Dennis Wheeler luncheon, Jan. 11
The Go Center will hold a luncheon for long-time stalwart volunteer
Dennis Wheeler on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2pm. All friends of the
Go Center are invited to have some pizza and celebrate Dennis' decades
of making the world better for American Go!

Youth Tournament, Jan. 26
This is a friendly tournament at the Go Center, for children at all
levels of play.  Prizes will include books, equipment, and fun things.
Free entry.  Children choose whether they want to play on 13x13 or 19x19
boards.  The Go Center will open at 1pm. We should have registration
done by 1:30, and start the first round no later than 1:45.  We'll break
for a snack after the first round, and should be done before 5pm.

Nerd Faire Con, Feb. 1
Seattle Go Center has a booth at Nerd Faire in Lynnwood, to
introduce the world's greatest game to new people!  According to
https://www.nerdfairecon.com/ "NerdFaire is a mini con for ALL THE
THINGS Nerdy and Geeky!  Our focus is on supporting local Shops,
businesses, and handmade items, in addition to creating community for
all of Nerdery and Geekdom.  We are an LGBTQIA, Family, and Kid friendly
event."  The event is Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Lynnwood Convention
Center, 10am-8pm.

We'll make separate reminder announcements for these as they approach.

The next "Double Digit Kyu" class will be Jan. 13 at 6:30 pm; then we're
closed Jan. 20 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day; and more or less regular
DDK scheduling will resume Jan. 27.

The next "Programming Computer Go" meetup will be Saturday, Jan. 18,
11am-1pm.

See you soon at the Go Center,
