[Seattle Go Center] Volunteers Needed Sept 3 & 4 on Eastside

Dear Go Teachers,

We have been invited to have a booth and do outreach at the Japan Fair 2016 during Labor Day weekend at Meydenbaurer Center in Bellevue, WA.  This is a new version of the festival that used to be held at Bellevue College in early September (the Akimatsuri)   http://www.japanfairus.org/

Who can help out?  I’m sure there will be good food there!  We need to have more definite volunteers before we commit.

Thanks,

Brian

[Seattle Go Center] Closed Sat July 2 But Open Sun July 3 for Ratings Tournament

Dear Go Players,

For the July 4th weekend, we will be closed on Saturday, July 2.  There will be no class on Monday, July 4 as well.

We will be open on Sunday, July 3, for our regular Monthly Ratings Tournament.  This is a great way to play some intense Go face to face. Registration is from 10 – 10:45 am.  We usually finish by 5:30. You do not have to play all three rounds, just tell the Tournament Director what your plans are.

If at all possible, please make sure your AGA membership is up to date before the day of the tournament.  You can join or renew your membership online at https://www.usgo.org/members/login  You can also manage your membership with a paper form at the Go Center.  We accept cash and checks.

There is no event fee for the Monthly Ratings Tournament, except to pay for your visit to the Go Center.  New Members get ten visits free, and Quarterly and Yearly Members get unlimited visits.

Cheers,

Brian

[Seattle Go Center] DDK Monday: Andrew Jackson Plays Sleep-Deprived Go

Hey Everyone!

Just thought you'd all like to know that my last DDK class is THIS MONDAY, JUNE 27. The DDK class will continue on through the summer, but with different instructor(s). I hope to resume teaching sessions in September.

To make my last class this summer extra special, Andrew Jackson has agreed to play a game with me live for all of your own amusements on the big board. However, I have been warned that, given his recent family news, his Go game may be a little "unrested." But, my live games with Andrew in the past have always been such fun, and I fully expect the same to be true here.

I hope you all come by to cheer us on!

[Seattle Go Center] SDK Wednesday 7pm: Game Reviews!

Hi all,

For Wednesday's single-digit kyu class, we'll be reviewing your very own games! Bring a game record of a game that you've recently played and a question or two; for example, maybe there was a moment in the middle game where you had no idea where to play, or maybe your opponent played some move in the opening that you'd never seen before. We'll solve these mysteries together!

Hope to see you there - 7pm at the Go Center!

[Seattle Go Center] DDK Monday: Lee Sedol's "Ladder Game"

Hey Everyone-

I thought I'd revisit Lee Sedol's infamous "Ladder Game." I did give a lecture on this game nearly 4 years ago in our DDK class that some of you may have seen, which I hope to update.

For those of you who do not know, this game is one of the most entertaining and amazing games played out in modern Go history, during which Lee Sedol plays out a ladder (that doesn't work for him) across most of the board! This is very strange and almost unheard of in professional level play.

Come find out why he does it!

[Seattle Go Center] Regular hours despite vacations

Dear Go Players,

For the rest of June, and for most of July, we will be maintaining our regular schedule.  Nick has two more classes on Monday nights, and then we will have guest teachers on Monday evenings in July, except that we will be on holiday July 4.  The Wednesday night class will be shared by new father Andrew Jackson, and Peter Nelson 6d.  Peter will probably be teaching this Wednesday, June 22.  We will be open this Saturday, with Dennis as usual, from 1-7 p.m.  Tuesdays are still big.  This Tuesday, Larry will be pizza czar, since I will be out of town again.  Lucy will open the Center this Thursday at 2 pm, and Larry will teach the beginners class at 6:30.

Our home page has the current schedule:

www.seattlego.org

In August, we have more special events, but no regular classes.  Some of our members are going to the Go Congress in Boston, which starts July 30.

Cheers,

brian

[ORE] [ORE system] General Conversion Questions from a noob

Hey there I am new to this system but am loving it so far. I am looking for conversion guides. Specifically Godlike to Wild Talents and vice versa. Also does anyone have any leads on Savage Worlds to ORE and Vice versa? Something like Cthulhulike but for Savage Worlds. It seem like someone must have done this at some time because Kerberos Club was done in both Savage Worlds and Wild Talents format so there must be some conversions someone calculated at some time. Thanks all!

[Seattle Go Center] DDK Monday: Tesuji Time

Greetings Go Fans!

During tomorrow's double-digit class we will be reviewing 20 tesuji shapes and problems. I know that this sounds like a lot, but this week's problem set will be on the easier side of the scale and many of the shapes will be related. Reviewing problems like this is not only a good way to flesh out your tesuji repertoire, but also a really good way to build your shape intuition during actual games. I hope to see you there!

[Seattle Go Center] Strong player from Japan here now, Tuesday

Dear Go Players,

Tobby, a 6 dan amateur from Japan, is at the Go Center now. He will be visiting Seattle for several months. This is his
second Tuesday at the Go Center. He is a friendly guy, open to both even games and teaching games.

We have about 20 people right now, including three young players.

Cheers,

[Seattle Go Center] Teaching Opportunities

Dear Go Players,

We will have some opportunities for guest lectures this summer for both the Monday Night DDK class, and also for the Wednesday Night SDK class, especially during the month of July.  Let me know if you would like to present something.  Note that we can set up our digital projector if you want to share stuff off your computer, or from the internet.

Also, we may need more school Go club teachers this fall, for after-school classes.  These clubs are crucial for getting the next generation playing Go.  They usually meet from 3 – 4 pm or 3:50 – 5 pm, often on Thursday afternoons.  Please contact me if you can help out.

Cheers,

Brian

[Seattle Go Center] DDK Monday: Be the Hunter

Hi Everyone-

I hope that you all enjoyed a nice Memorial Day Weekend last week, and are excited to get back to class. For this week's DDK topic, we will be doing an attacking workshop. Thus, we will be practicing making our opponents suffer and squirm! I hope that this practice gives you the confidence to play the most vicious moves that will get you the most profit in your games.

Just FYI, I will be taking a summer break after June, so there will only be 4 classes left before then! Don't miss out!
