[Seattle Go Center] Re: SGC CLOSINGS -- SGC Closed Today

Ugh, how did I ever typo JAN as NOV?!  🙂.  We will be closed two days 31 DEC - 01 JAN, not 305 days 🙂.

Sorry for the extra mail.

Bill

Subject: SGC CLOSINGS -- SGC Closed Today

Hi, everyone.  We are very sorry for this decision and the short notice, but SGC will close today due to weather.  While some staff cannot make it in due to snow, we also see some bus closures and a very red metro map.  We apologize for the inconvenience at closing today, and even I was hoping to get a game in today in person.

While I have your attention, due to timing this holiday season and travel plans, SGC will be closed:
 * 24-25 DEC
 * 31 DEC - 01 NOV, so no JAN ratings tournament (but we will have Pari Go in JAN)

We will be open 27 DEC, Tue.  We will be open 03 JAN, Tue, and then again 07 JAN, Sat, and 08 JAN, Sun, for Kids Time and Women+ Night.

Thank you,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Pair Go 21 JAN !!!!!

Hey, all.  I want to announce that we will have a Pair Go event 21 JAN.  This event is particularly fun oriented, and traditionally people dress up in fancy garb or costumes, as well as we have dessert and alcohol between the two rounds, as well as after 🙂.  Also, traditionally, Pair Go teams are male and female.  We decided to keep to the tradition for this event to the extent that we will forbid two very clearly male-identified or two female-identified persons forming a pair.  What makes Pair Go so fun is you cannot talk to your partner, and the time control is 45 min hard stop (you must complete all moves within 45 min).

We very much hope Women+ Night has created more enthusiasm for Go, and some of those attendees will join in Pair Go night.

There is no pre-registration, but we would appreciate if you are a woman who plans to attend Pair Go and does not have a partner, please let us know.  Close to the event, we could try to help people find partners.  If you plan to attend and have a partner, please let us know so that we can get a count for purchasing desserts.

These are not rated games, so you do not need to be an AGA member to play.

More details to come, but this is usually an evening event, running roughly 5-9pm-ish, Saturday night.

Hope to see many pairs and have a fun and goofy evening!!
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] SGC Looking for Teachers and Occasional Opener/Closers

Hey, all.  We've had several requests for private lessons for beginners and DDKs since summer time.  Sometimes we get requests from SDKs.  We've lost a few of the teachers in recent times that we had that were willing to take students, and we would like to recruit a few people who might have time to teach for pay.  Our Paid Private Instruction (PPI) program does require approval, and you may choose to work with kids (though parents are required to be present).  If you have any questions and are willing to be available to take on one or more students, please inquire.

We are also looking for 2-3 people who could be backup opener/closers when River and Kyle are unable to be hosts at SGC.  This would be the odd Tue evening, Sat afternoon, or Kids Time on Sun when our regular staffing all have conflicts.  Ideally, you would be someone who regularly attends SGC and wouldn't mind the responsibility of shutting down appliances and heat and locking up on your way out.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

Thanks,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Covid Warning

Hey,  SGC community.  We are sorry to announce (but grateful for the integrity of one of our members) that someone was at SGC Tue night, and Wed they tested positive for covid.  As you know, we allow individuals to choose to play without a mask, so you know the risks you assume as an accountable person.  However, we're sorry to say those who were at Tue night gathering may want to rapid test or be more aware around at-risk loved-ones for the next 5-10 days.

We hope all are well and happy these days,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] NO Kids Time or Usual Ratings Tournament This Week

Because of the State Championship continuing tomorrow at SGC, there is no Kids Time tomorrow 04 DEC.  Also, there also is no normal ratings tournament tomorrow because of the State Championship final rounds.
