[Seattle Go Center] Reminder: Annual Members Meeting Sat 16 MAR 2:00pm

We will hold our annual members meeting 16 MAR at the new SGC location.  We will review programs and events in 2023 and share financial info and space planning info.  We will also ask for a motion to approve directors.

We need 14 voting members (annual or lifetime) as a quorum.  If you cannot make the meeting, you can email manager@seattlego.org to register a proxy for yourself (notification goes to the secretary for recording).  We appreciate your naming proxies to ensure we have quorum for the meeting.

This year, we are grateful that Oren Laskin and Chris Kirschner (both very long serving directors) volunteered to be directors again, and they will be on the slate of candidates.  The board is excited to nominate Saki Umezaki as a candidates.  Saki is a native Japanese speaker and mother of Ayumu, and she brings a few points of diversity to the board.  Saki and Ayumu both have been coming to SGC for a while now and donated several Hikaru No Go books to complete our Japanese collection.  Saki learned to play Go when she was 10 years old, when her family moved, and she discovered her neighbor was a Nihon Ki-in professional.  She taught Ayumu to play Go.  In Japan, Saki worked in IT sales, but now she is a full-time mom and studying to be a CPA.

Members can nominate other candidates if seven or more members nominate someone prior to 06 MAR.  This gives the board time to approve the candidates and possibly to work with folks to have a slate of three candidates for much simpler voting at the meeting.  If seven voting members want to nominate a candidate, please send mail to manager@seattlego.org prior to 06 MAR.

Cheers,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Seattle Go Center Starting Meetup near Everett ???

Hi, community.  We're wondering whether there is enough interest in our creating a meetup in the Everett area (or Marysville or Arlington).  We had good success with members creating Crossroads and Cap Hill Stroup pub meetups.  There is a European 1k exchange student in the area who sent us mail that inspired this because they can't get to Seattle very easily.

Where and when and if is based on responses.  River may be able to host in Everett and facilitate finding a place.  I know we have long time members up in Bellingham (where there was a meetup pre-covid), but it is farther from Everett than I realized 😊.  SGC can provide a couple starter boards, but hopefully attendees have sets they could bring.

Please let us know if you are interested, if you can host sometimes, and when and where are good.

Thanks,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Calling for Sakura Con Volunteer

Hello Go Players,

This March 29th-31th, we are hosting a room at Sakura Con downtown, and we need volunteers to teach newer players the game of Go. Last year we taught over 250 people the game for their first time.

We are looking for around 10-15 Volunteers to teach Go and oversee the room.  Volunteers must be able to commit 4+ hours to earn an event access passes, and we need to distribute help over all our event hours.  Sakuracon recommends picking up badges on the 28th of March before opening day, especially if you're schedule to help Fri, 29 MAR.  We provide bottled water for volunteers, but other drinks and food we ask you to supply for yourselves.

Please email me, programs@seattlego.org, in the next 2 weeks if you are interested in volunteering, or use the signup sheet at SGC.   Please indicate when you're available Fri-Sun and preferred times to help us schedule volunteers

This is a really big event and nice perks to volunteers, so please help out.

[Seattle Go Center] Announcing Annual Members Meeting -- Sat 16 MAR 2:00pm

We will hold our annual members meeting 16 MAR at the new SGC location.  We will review programs and events in 2023 and share financial info and space planning info.  We will also vote to approve a slate of three directors who will serve a three-year term.  Each year, three of the nine directors' terms expire.

Sadly, Solomon needs more personal time, but we are grateful for his several terms of service.

The board is excited to nominate Saki Umezaki to the slate of candidates.

Cheers,
Bill
