[Seattle Go Center] Thanks for all the help!! SGC Next Steps

Hey, all, thanks to those who came to help us pack the last two weeks and to carry stuff for 6 hours on 20 JUL when we moved out.  My estimate is we saved at least $800 if not $1200 by reducing the hours we paid the movers to tote stuff and pack stuff.

SGC is looking for a place to share with a restaurant, church, school, community center, library, etc.  So far, for various reasons, we haven't found a good match.  We still have leads we're following up on.

We hope to find a 4 yr rental space soon, and we are actively working with commercial realtors to find a space.

There still is a gathering of Zoka coffee folks Mon mornings.  If someone has several people who want to meet in a pub or coffee shop or some space impromptu, and you want us to give it a shout out, let us know.  However, we do hope to have an arrangement with a shop soon where we can all rally around meeting to play Go f2f.

Cheers,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] SGC Last Night and Party ... Uh, bring tools please :-)

If you are planning to come to the party tonight, or to the final packing session tomorrow from 1-5pm, AND you have hex wrenches, large flat head screw drivers, and a drill with bits for extracting screws, please email me to confirm you're coming with tools.  I don't currently have my drill and bits, and only the gods know where my hex wrenches are 🙂.  We have to disassemble the large wooden table, and I'd like to scavenge the outside door handle.

Also, we may have media at SGC tonight, at least I think Seattle Times is planning to attend.  Another member alerted KUOW.  We hope to get some media coverage of our history, place in Seattle, and what it means to members to have a Go Center as a resource and community space.  If you have insider contacts, feel free to spread the word.

But don't forget to play Go, visit with others, and just have fun tonight.  Chris is baking bread.  We'll have some food and beers.  Feel free to bring other food and drinks.

Thanks,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Last Days Current Location Seattle Go Center

Hello, everyone.  We are closing in on our last days in the original location of the Seattle Go Center.  Please come out Tue to say good bye and enjoy some visiting with others and a bit of a wake/party 🙂.  SGC will provide some food and beer.  You can bring your own food and drink if you like.  We will be playing Go and toasting good bye.

Wednesday, 19 JUL, from 1-5pm if some people could show up to help pack, that would be much appreciated.  AFter a workshop Wed morning, we will fold up all the chairs and tables, pack the gobans and stones, take up the tatami mats, and finalize prep for moving the next day.

Thursday, 20 JUL, from 8am onward, we have a moving truck and three people coming to help us move.  Volunteers would be very appreciated to help load and unload the truck (yes, I know, it is very early).  We're paying $212/hour, so the more we carry in and out, the more money we save.  We hope it is one trip from SGC to 14900 Aurora Av Public Storage facility with the movers.  We may have some volunteers take some things in their cars, such as floor gobans or artwork.  Please park with the thought that a 26 ft truck will come into the lot and hopefully back down the ramp for easy loading.

We are actively searching for a new place to rent, and I'm still calling and trying to find a restaurant or facility to share on Tue evenings and Sat afternoons until we have a new rental location.  So far, no luck with places nearby we've contacted, and we can pay some to make this a possibility.

Thank you!!
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] SGC Open Today, Party Next Tuesday

SGC is open today, Saturday, and next Tue.

We'll have a party Tue next week for those who want to stop by for a last game in the original location for SGC.  Brian wants to do a group photo with lights and so on in front of the tatami room at 7pm-ish.

We are on the hunt for temporary rental space as well as a Tue place to meet until we can rent a new space.

Cheers,
Bill

Who is the pro?

Please come enjoy simul games and a lecture from 6pm on.  Simuls are a great way to get a group lesson with a pro due to the brief review after the game.  There will also be a short lecture.  The pro is on his way to the US Go Congress where he will be teaching, reviewing games, and do on.  We will also be open for general playing for anyone.

There will also be simuls and maybe game reviews or a lecture Fri from 3-6pm.

Please come help the pro feel welcome.

[Seattle Go Center] SGC -- Open Tue and Pro Visit Thur and Fri

Hey.  Seattle Go Center will be open Tue, 04 JUL.  Kyle has kindly said he will be there for folks who want to play Go.  Our last Tue in the current location is 18 JUL, and we will have a little party that night.

A Nihon Ki-in pro is coming Thurs, 6pm, for simul games and a lecture.  Simul games are like little group lessons since there is always a bit of review of the game.  We will also have simuls Fri from 3pm to 6pm.

Cheers,
Bill
