[ORE] [Progenitor] Manufacturing metahumans

So, as I'm playing through my campaign, Hoover's starting to accumulate a small army of metahumans. And it is making me wonder...how come there's no mention, aside from a few limited cases like the Progress Cadre, of governmental organizations doing the same?

You'd think as soon as the US military discovered how powers transferred (which isn't hard to deduce), they'd be grabbing everyone they can find with powers and getting them to spend time exposing select groups of highly loyal and motivated soldiers, and then getting those who "catch super" to do the same and so on.

Even if things are kind of "leaky" - some metahumans go AWOL, etc - you'd still think that the military and any government organizations that are able to recruit some "virgin" 4th or 5th tiers (shouldn't be that hard early on) would have pools of hundreds of metas to draw upon. That seems like a big deal, yet the possibility isn't really contemplated in the sourcebook.

I'd be curious for those who have run Progenitor if you've had stuff like that happen in your games, what it all ends up looking like, etc.

[Seattle Go Center] A Tuesday with bread!

Dear Go Players,

Chris K. is baking bread to share  this Tuesday, Aug 16.  This will be the last week at the Go Center for some of the summer students and interns, so come by to play one more game with them.  Last week we had about 40 players, which is not bad for a slow time of the year!

Cheers,

Brian

Re: [Seattle Go Center] concession stand Open Sat, Aug 13, 1-7

And as an added bonus, the Seattle Go Center concession stand will also be offering snacks for $1.
Peanuts, chips, cracker jacks, candy, and my favorite, those little chocolate wafer cylinders, yum!
All at cost as a service to members and visitors.
Limited supplies. First come first served.
If nobody buys them, I'll just eat them myself.

Yes, one issue I had with Reign's company rules is that the players were rolling 2d or 3d for actions with few successes. By boosting the range of dice to 10 means successes will be more likely and players will use the rules more.

If I was running, I'd test them, but that will not be happening in the foreseeable future.

[ORE] Reign - Company Rules Expanded

While I like the Company Rules in Reign, I do have to admit that I don't like Companies being so reliant on PCs or at least for the larger organizations to. So I've made some pretty basic changes to it and while I haven't had the chance to test it out I think it should work.

What are Qualities?
Qualities are essentially the stats of your Company and the means by which they get things done. There are six qualities to keep track of and while, normally, Companies have a cap of six for Qualities but I've expanded it to ten for companies so that they can stand on their own if needed. The approximate levels of competence can roughly be construed below:

1-2: Terrible
3-4 : Poor
5-6: Average
7-8: Excellent
9-10: Superb

Typical bonuses and Penalties:
Catastropic Failure -4d
Major Failure: -3d
Significant Failure: -2d
Minor Failure: -1d
Stalemate: +0d
Minor Success: +1d
Significant Success: +2d
Major Success: +3d
Epic Success +4d

Company Levels
Not all companies are equal and it's not uncommon that they operate on entirely different scales. To help deal with that issue there are three levels on which it is assumed Companies operate. They are:

Local - Thieves Guild, Small Village, Mercenary Group
National - City-State, Influential Politician,
Global - Empire, Deity

When interacting with a Company on a higher level you take -4 dice from each Quality except Sovereignty for each level of difference. For clarification, a Local Company with Might 10, assuming that there are no assets or bonuses/penalties from PC actions, when attacking a National Company would now have Might 6 and if it had attacked a Global Company would have Might 2.

Notes
The only thing left I can think of is how to deal with a Company when it shifts Levels, the requirements for that to take place, and XP changes. Currently, I'm thinking thinking that to advance to the next level you simply subtract four from each Quality and go on from there after meeting the prerequisites set by the GM. As for XP changes, I've got no idea on that front yet.

[Seattle Go Center] Open 1- 10 on Tuesday Aug 9

Last Tuesday was relatively slow, since the Go Congress was happening in Boston.  But we still had 33 people, including 4 new visitors, and everybody found a game.  Tomorrow, there will probably be out of town players dropping by, so come welcome them to Seattle!  On Saturday, we had visitors from Japan and France.

Cheers,

Brian

I will be your host this Saturday at the Go Center, from 1-7 pm.  I can help with memberships, and answer questions about our book and equipment store. We will also have several volunteers here to help teach beginners and double digit kyu players.  And since it is summer in Seattle, we never know who will visit us from afar.  In the last month, we have had surprise visits by 4 strong players who were from out of town.

For herbivores we will have spinach and mushroom  pizza with alfredo sauce for FREE
and for carnivores we will having sausage and or pepperoni  pizza for FREE.

This is a one time deal for FREE food, although it might become a yearly August event, and who knows, perhaps in time, it may come to be known as the Larry E memorial FREE pizza party.

And oh ya, we will be showing some videos of games from the Go Congress or Pandanet tournaments.

[Seattle Go Center] Go Congress games on KGS and in archive

Dear Members,

The KGS Go Server (www.gokgs.com) is broadcasting the top games from the Go Congress right now.  Since they are on East Coast time, the games are pretty far along already.   Look for  USGO1, USGO3, etc. when you are trying to find the Go Congress games on KGS.

To look at archived games from the Masters Open Tournament, you can download .sgf files from the tournament crosstab, and go through them with your favorite .sgf reader.

http://www.usgo.org/tournaments/crosstab/band-matrix/176

You can download the .sgf files from underlined games – just click on them to get started.

If you are using windows, the free Drago program works quite well for reading .sgf files and replaying games.

http://www.godrago.net/

If you want to check on how your buddies are doing at the Go Congress, here is the crosstab for the Open.  I believe the names are numbered in the order they signed up, so you might want to use a search option to find them:

[Seattle Go Center] Regular hours 1-10 this Tuesday Aug. 2

Dear Go Players,

The last two weeks we have had more than 50 players visit the Go Center on Tuesday.  I expect a somewhat smaller crowd this Tuesday, Aug 2, since some of our members are playing Go in Boston, at the U.S. Go Congress.  But still we should have a good group, where everybody can find a game.  We will have volunteer teachers for the beginners as well.  We will have bagels to share, and we order take-out cheese pizza at 6:30.

We hope to see you there!

Cheers,

Brian
