Loving all the ideas so far!
Aggressive corrosive antibody cloud and big K.O. is go, and I got a
ton of inspiration for his backstory. Nothing quite set in stone yet,
but I have time to introduce him.
I have some of the king's magnates roughed out. I'm not dissatisfied
with them but if you guys are curious and willing to offer advice or
ideas I'd be eager to post stat and idea summaries.


The Big K.O.
4hd A + 4, Penetration +2, Mass, Limited Damage (stun only), Daze,
Exhausted, Non-Lethal*, no Upward Limit.

*Applies to powers that deal stun damage. Instead of rolling over into
killing one a location is filled with stun damage, stun damage with
this extra rolls over to the next hit location with empty health
boxes. This power only begins to convert stun damage into killing once
the victim has no more damage boxes left to fill.

A powerful move. No rolls required and K.O. can dump as much will as
he wants to increase width or knockback.

[Seattle Go Center] Sasaki Tadashi Workshop

Hello Everyone,

My friend, Sasaki Tadashi sensei (8p) will be vising Seattle for a
workshop on November 5th and November 6th.

The workshop runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM on both days with a one hour
lunch break at noon. You can register at

Sasaki sensei's teacher was Sakata Eio 9p.

This workshop is the vision of Sasaki sensei and he hopes to meet many
new friends and old friends from the Seattle Go Community. Sasaki
sensei expressed interest in doing a workshop at the Go Center to show
his appreciation for the Seattle Go Communities support of the Seattle
Go Center. "I appreciate very much that the Seattle Go Community has
kept well-organized the Go Center Mr. Iwamoto left us."

On a personal note, Sasaki sensei has been a great teacher at the US Go
Congress. This year, he provided me with two go problems every day.
The problems were great and he created them all himself. At the Go
Congress three years ago, Sasaki sensei organized a team game between
all the amateurs and pros. We were given 9 stones, but in a new
formation I had never seen before. Each of the handicap stones
represented a different baseball player. It was great game.

I'm looking forward to his visit and I hope you can join us for the
workshop,

It would help if you were a bit more specific about what it is that
you find so bland about the character.

If it's something stat-related, you could probably solve it with a few
cool "If/Thens" on some of his more frequently used powers.

If it's something more character-based, then I would start by skewing
his Loyalties and Passions a bit to 'off-kilter' them.

The fact that you are concerned about the character's pitch and tone
at all, indicates that he is someone you want to bring into your game
a bit more frequently, and hence spend a good deal of time role-
playing as. So, let's look at these one at a time...

For an added combat twist you could make his genetically superior
immune system capable of 'infecting' inferior humans - something along
the lines of antibodies in the blood attacking and/or modifying the
genteic structure of those it encounters.

He could either use his blood as a 'weapon' in a syringe or such, or
just have it be a side-effect if any PC is spattered with his blood in
combat.

Treat it either as a simple damaging toxin (Burn effect and possibly
Disintegrate if you want to be nasty), or have the blood be both
damaging and beneficial to the PC (make it like some form of focus
that gives limited, temporary effects of King Omega's powers to the
recipient while also attacking with Stun/Killing damage and disrupting
their sets).

Hmmm. For a combat tweak you could give him some kind of immolate style effect representing an "aggressive immune system." then have a reveal that one reason he's so dead set on passing on his template is because he's like a walking environmental cleaning facility, his aggressive antibodies, which hang out in a 5 yard cloud, actively scrub his immediate environs. He sees himself as the answer to the earths problems and wants to make more that can wander the earth and clean up the place.

You might want to give him a more human touch. Maybe he has a loved
one that can't survive in the current environment. He has him/her in
some sort of stasis, but his search for an "untainted human" is
motivated more by needing unaffected genes to save that loved one than
his stated goal of making another him. It would give him an extra
dimension and could be played in any number of ways.

Those are all awesome ideas, even if originally I was hoping for
suggestions to improve his modus operandi in combat, since right now
all he does is punch, grapple and hurl large objects. He's totally not
above chucking his whole throne room at invaders.
I like the daikajiu mutation, sending the King rampaging through his
own kingdom. The robot thing is a classic, I might just do that if the
mood is right.
He's already a benevolent-ish ruler but he's very easy to anger and
the kind who would provoke the players if I know them right, and to
them that might as well be as bad as killing kittens. His kingdom is
one of the safest places to live since they are a major superpower,
but the King's constant warmongering and conquests make mean there is
no end of enemies.
Making a heavyweight figure in the world actually a woman is not very
unusual for me. It wouldn't be very surprising.
The King's goal already has much to do with finding an untainted human
specimen (to whom the atmosphere happens to be lethal since it is
pretty loaded with toxins and mutagenic retrovirii) to pass on his
gene template and create others like him first, repopulate the land
with pure humans second.

Or mix and match! Make him a robot.. make his "Concubine" the actual
woman behind the creation of the robot... she's some kind of super-
genius that realized that in a world after society has collapsed the
strong will rule the weak. So she built King Omega as her "front" to
help her build the empire... When she realizes things are going
badly... she can quietly slip out and try again elsewhere or else lick
her wounds and vow vengeance on the group that ruined her little
scheme.

Another option: She's the one that actually believes in the purity of
humankind thing and thinks of herself as the new "Eve" of mankind...
she's using her kingdom as a front to gather up genetically pure human
males to breed with. King Omega judges men Pure, Impure, or
Outcasts... Outcasts are those that are obviously flawed and are sent
away or killed on the spot (depending on how they take the news)--
maybe some few are kept to perform jobs below the dignity of The Pure.
The worthy become fanatical members of the new society. The twist is
that those that are judged "Impure" are actually the more "pure"
humans... the Impure are immediately sent for "eradication", but are
actually kept in stables as stallions for Eve. This gives another
subplot of what happens to the Children of Eve...

for the grand finale, and also a built-in sequel: if your players feel
like continuing, they can then continue right to tracking down either
the evil genious who built the robot or search for the source of the
monster thingie inside Omega.

I would also consider making him a her; a woman boss baddie,
especially if she's like the ultimate human fighting thing would be a
fresher angle. Plus it changes the dynamics of how the players and the
world deals with the baddie.

Or King Omega could be completely benevolent. He's just arrogant and
prone to rolling up his sleeves to get the job done. And that involves
"dealing" with anything that gets in the way of him or his people.
Perhaps he just has a "You're either with us or against us" attitude and
he's established some kind of enclave where life is pretty good, if
you're willing to join his society... if you don't, well, he doesn't
pull punches.

Hello everyone,

Tomorrow we look at the first two games of the Mingren Title round.
Jiang Weijie, 5p is defending his title against Kong Jie, 9p. Jiang
Weijie wins both games by Resignation and has to only win one more game
to hold the title.

You could try making him a "secret robot." he believes he's this genetically superior guy but he's actually just some other guys robot. That way, at the climax of the battle (or the finale) when he's struck the telling blow he sees that he's all pistons and blinking lights inside. Then he flies into a berserker rage spouting denial and the PCs mop up.

You could also up the creep factor by 1 meeelion by having him split open upon death to reveal an underdeveloped fetus monster or a decrepit old man (making him a little like Prime from Malibu comics).

Or, pushed to his limits by his battle with the PCs his "perfect" genetic code could start to destabilize and he becomes a mindless dai kaiju they have to fight with massive artillery or their own super robots(!) for the final phase, or something truly awful like a living island with the players having to navigate to the "heart" fighting swarms of mutated derivative versions of his original form that all rant incoherently about being the true ruler, then when they arrive they find the original growing out of a wall, begging to be slain because he's become "too ugly to live."

You could also choose to make him an effeminate "Nancy boy" or make it Queen Omega instead, for some groups either would be enough of a curveball. You could also leave that as a reveal, only refer to the character by name or "it" so when they arrive they expect giant monster and find oversized woman. Not what you originally described but you wanted something different.

post apocalypse with robots and mutants galore. One of the major big
bads is King Omega (a tentative name, I just needed something to write
at the top of the sheet) who believes he has the genetic right to rule
as the most genetically perfect human derivative, and has succeeded in
beating anyone who denied his rule to a pulp.

I see this guy as a hulking bastard, regal as hell. Nearly
indestructible and capable of a lot of destruction, but all of his
powers come from his optimized genetic structure. So far his stats are
thus:

Body 10d (Attacks +2, No Upward Limit, Booster +1)
Coordination 3d + 2hyper
Sense 3d +2d hyper
Mind 4d +2d hyper
Charm 5d
Command 5d +4hd
Base Will 35
Will 118 (He has personally taken down a LOT of other supers at the
beginning of his reign)
Loyalty to the genetic sanctity of the human race (20), Passion for
Conquering (15)

And now for the powers

Size Shift 5hd D U, permanent, armored defense.
It makes him huge and gives him 5 LAR

Extra Tough 6hd
lets him take a lot more punishment due to redundant organs, increased
muscle and bone density.

Regeneration 2hd
He's a bioengineered monster that just doesn't stop.

I'm also thinking of giving him a focus that provides interference
defense against malignant nonphysical powers.

The problem is, he seems a bit bland, missing that special something.

interesting. What can I do to make him cooler while keeping in theme?

[Seattle Go Center] Two Pro Visits

Dear Go Players,
 
We have two pros visiting us soon.  On next Saturday, October 29,  Myung Wan Kim 9P will playing simultaneous games at 2:00 p.m. and giving a short lecture at 5 p.m.  The suggested donation for playing a simultaneous game with Mr. Kim is $10, and there is a sign up sheet posted at the Go Center.  6 places are still available for the simul.  The lecture is free. In addition to being a real nice guy, Myung Wan has the highest AGA rating of anyone: 10.247  (that's plus 10.247).
 
This same Saturday, Oct. 29, the Korean club will be at the Go Center.  So strong players should be able to find good games all day.  We will also have a volunteer available to teach beginning players.

Apples and oranges.

In my approach, the (hypothetical) player and GM establish that there *exists* a space to put things in, which opens up the possibility for other miracles to interact with it.  Or that the power converts them into pure energy that becomes entangled with the Ghost projection at the quantum level, or dissassembles them at the atomic level and stores the pattern in the character's brain, or whatever.

The important part is that, mechanically, my version destroys/erases/removes an object, and later restores it, as two separate Qualities.  Would you prefer...

Useful (turn item into air) Extras and Flaws: Focus -1, Capacity: Mass
Useful (create item) Extras and Flaws: Focus -1, If/Then (only recreates items annihilated by wand) -1, If/Then (can only create an item once per annihilation) -1, Capacity: Mass

It's functioning mechanically the same: two instant effects.  The first one was originally "annihilate item" but that seemed to be begging for a dispute about Attacks vs. Useful... even though turning something into air (normal atmospheric mix) is *much* more useful.

Really, there ought to be a third quality -- "Inventory Screen" to know instantly and precisely what is available.


Re: Permanent and Exhausted / One Use / Depleted -- I often forget Permanent's dual purpose as "permanent effect" rather than "activates every round".  Minions works the same way, iirc, which is really kind of weird, when I think about it.  Especially if you're using the "teleporting in from elsewhere" interpretation.  Creating gold out of thin air is an instant effect, but teleporting in ninja reinforcements from your arbitrarily-distant hidden base isn't...
