I'm not sure why, but the flexible nature of the rules is what's given me the problem. Players are either a little scared, or intimidated to dive in. This has been the case in Reign, Godlike and Wild Talents...so the rules strength is its biggest hurdle.
I generally have a player who grasps it and can get all up to speed, but the first session or two is a slog.

[Seattle Go Center] Thursday Afternoon volunteer(s) needed in January

Dear Go Players,

We will need a new host for the Go Center on Thursday afternoons starting in January, since Lucy has a change to her University schedule.  We usually open at 2 pm, and Larry comes at 6 pm.  This day manager position could be filled by one or more volunteers, but I would like to maintain a regular schedule.  This is often a slow time at the Go Center, so you might be able to get some studying in.  We are happy to train new volunteers.  Please let me know if you are interested.  And thanks to Lucy for being such a cheerful teacher and reliable manager this summer and fall!

Cheers,

Brian

[Seattle Go Center] Open today Tuesday and also Thursday

Dear Go Players,

Will be open our regular hours today, Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 1 – 10 p.m.  Last Tuesday had a good crowd; I expect today will be even bigger.  The SDK class will not be meeting tomorrow night, Wednesday.  However, we will be open on Thursday for our regular hours, from 1 – 9 p.m.  Beginners can get lessons in the afternoon with Lucy, and with Larry starting at 6:30.  We will be closed during the New Year’s weekend.

Here’s a friendly reminder that the Go Center will be open all Tuesdays and Thursdays of the holiday season.  Today, Dec. 20, Chris K. is baking bread to share.  Also, the Single Digit Kyu Class (SDK) with Peter Nelson will be meeting this Wednesday (but not next week).

[Seattle Go Center] DDK Monday: Last class of 2016!

Hi Everyone!

I just want to announce that tomorrow night (12/19) is our last Double-Digit Kyu Class of 2016! We will reconvene in 2017 on the 9th of January, but will have another holiday on the 16th in observance of MLK.

Tomorrow night's class will feature our own version of "Survivor Go." This Go variant will be a giant team game that takes place at the big board. Players will be held responsible for finding moves at their own rank level in order to own points for their respective teams. We've done this variant several times in the DDK class, though not very recently. It is very fun! I hope to see you there!

[Seattle Go Center] Open Tuesdays and Thursdays Throughout the Holidays

Dear Go Players,

The Go Center will be open all Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the holidays.  Tuesday after Christmas should be especially big, with students back from college, and out of town visitors.

We will be open this Saturday, Dec. 17, from 1-7 pm, but closed on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.

Nick will be teaching DDK on Monday, Dec. 19, but then he will take a two week break.

Peter will be teaching SDK on Dec. 21, but then he will take a one week break.

The Meetup at Uwajimaya on Wednesdays will also meet on Dec. 21, and then take a week off.

John Richards will be at the Couth Buzzard as usual on all Thursdays, for his regular time, 6-9 pm.

The Meetup at Zoka’s Coffee Roasting in Tangletown will continue on all Monday and Friday mornings.

Last I heard, the Monday meetup at Hurry Curry will be taking a few weeks off.

I’m not sure of the holiday plans for the Crossroads Meetup on Thursdays on the Eastside – please contact me if you have info.

For more information on Meetups, please go to:

Re: [ORE] [Wild Talents]Request for help with Character Creation, understanding Hyperstats, Hyperskills, and Power/Miracles

Extras and Flaws apply their costs per die, before the multiplier for Hard or Wiggle dice.

But my current confusion is with the math. I've downloaded the excel calculator and I've been using it to try and understand the math in character creation. I think I understand the cost of power qualities. Extras and Flaws are still messing with me. I thought they were a one-time plus or minus to the cost of the power. Not that they were applied across each die like power qualities.

I'm having a failure at understanding the power creation.

[Seattle Go Center] DDK Monday: The Most Common Pro Moves

Hey Everyone-

During Tomorrow's DDK class, we are going to run a workshop on the most common pro moves and positions. These are moves that may not be immediately as obvious to you as they should, and that's why I want to try to get you all some hands-on practice with them.

There will be some time afterward for some games. I hope to see you there!
