Dear Members,
The generous gift of Iwamoto Sensei established the Seattle Go Center in 1995, but it is our responsibility as members to keep it running, and to share our wonderful game. We do this with a combination of volunteer effort, gifts of books and equipment, and monetary donations.
In the fiscal year ending in June of 2018, I counted 55 volunteers. They included most of our class teachers, the many people who taught during open times, outreach volunteers, the people who host and organize meet-ups at other locations, all our tournament directors, the hosts and guides for visiting pros, and the volunteers who take on building maintenance projects. Thanks to them all!
Last year we received books and go equipment worth about $5000. This allowed us to expand our reference library, especially with Japanese books. Our lending library doubled in size, mostly with books in English. We had nice book and equipment prizes for the youth tournaments, and two of the regular tournaments. We also loan equipment to school clubs and local meet-ups.
Monetary donations are also an important part of our budget. As usual, we plan on getting more from donations than from memberships. Please consider supporting the Go Center financially. Your donation is tax deductible if you itemize your deductions. There are also matching donations available from some employers, such as Microsoft. (If you are looking us up on a list of approved charities, look for us under our formal name: the “Nihon Ki-in Go Institute of the West”. Our Federal EIN is 91-1653-572)
Donations can be made through our Donation Page. Look for the Paypal button on the bottom of the page.

We also accept cash donations and checks at the Go Center. And on Tuesdays and Saturdays, we can take credit cards.
Have a Happy New Year! We hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
