[Seattle Go Center] Soda Price Increase

Hi everyone hate to be the bearer of bad news but as you can see by the title of the email we are increasing the cost of soda. Just as an aside, we do not try to make money on soda, but we are hoping to at least break even; which as of now we aren't. Hence the price increase. On average over the last few years we are losing ~$300/yr on soda, this is between the price we pay for the soda as well as the tax we are required to pay to the state. So with that in mind we are going to raise the price from $1 to $2; we needed to raise the price to at least $1.75 but to avoid excess coins/change overhead we decided to make it an even $2. Please note that if you use Paypal to purchase the soda it will be $2.25 to help cover the paypal fee. This change is taking effect immediately, 5/14/2024.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

~River, Operations Manager~

P.S. Tea is still $0.50 and cold water is still free!

[Seattle Go Center] Meetups Reminders and White Night

Hey, all.  I just wanted to list the meetups we helped start or that popped up from volunteers in the area.  One of them is having a special game play evening 23 MAY to mark the full moon.

The Central Seattle Go Club that meets at Phoenix Comics and on 23 MAY for the full moon, they will be playing with only white stones (single color Go, so you need to remember which are representing black stones).  See meetups page (below) for links.

When organizers update us on meetups, we update https://www.seattlego.org/clubs-and-meet-ups/ and the home page Regular Schedule.

We also have meetups at Zoka, Crossroads Mall, Everett, south sound, and two in Cap Hill (different nights).  Columbia City is on hold until 23 MAY to find a new location and hopefully some help hosting it.

Cheers,
Bill

Hello Go players,

This year the Seattle Go center is returning to the annual U District Street Fair. I am looking for around 6-8 volunteers to help on May 18th-19th (Saturday and Sunday) from 11am – 7pm. This is a mid-size event that is hosted outside, and we are on University Ave, so I expect us to be busy through most of the event. There is a lot of live music and artistic booths to enjoy in between teaching.

Also being an outdoor event, I will need 2-3 people to help with set up starting at 8am on Saturday at the SGC to help load tables and chairs (If you have a larger car/trunk, please reach out as the extra space is welcome). Simlary I will need 2-3 people for take down on Sunday around 6pm.

If you like to volunteer for this event, please let me know which days you can help out.

Also feel free to message, if you like to learn more about the event or have any questions.

[Seattle Go Center] Props to Volunteers -- Go Outreach #1 Again :-)

I think for a long time, the Go room at Cherry Blossom has been one of the most popular rooms.  Today, thanks to Jacque, Heath, Lin, Lusha, Rob, Peter, Chien-yu, Saki, and Ayumu, we were voted the most popular station at the Kodomo no Hi festival today.

We taught more than 200 people about Go, several taking note there is a Go Center in Seattle 😊.

So a big shout out to all who volunteer at all of our outreach events or to teach in after school programs because you make SGC look good and honor Iwamoto Sensei's mission for creating a Go Center in Seattle.

THANKS!!
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] SGC This Weekend -- Tournament and JCCCW Festival

Hi, all.  Sorry for the late reminder, but hopefully everyone knows this weekend is the first Sunday of MAY which means there is a ratings tournament. As usual, register from 10-10:45, rounds are 11am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm.  If you are not an AGA member by the time of the first pairing, then we cannot pair you.  Please ensure you are a member of the AGA at usgo.org, and if you are signing up, please choose the Seattle AGA Chapter as your affiliated chapter.

Also, this Sunday (yes, they are at the same time), some volunteers will be at the Japanese Community and Cultural Center of WA for their Kodomo no Hi Festival (Children Festival) to teach Go.  If you want to sample some Japanese culture or help teach some Go, please stop by from 11am-5pm.

Cheers,
Bill
