[Seattle Go Center] Pro Visit 08-09 JUL Reminder

Chihiro Sensei 1p from the Kansai Ki-in will visit Mon and Tue, 08-09 JUL, before traveling to the Go Congress.  You can see some short info here (search for her name): https://gocongress.org/pros/.  She helps teach at the Osaka Go Camp each summer, and besides a children's program she runs, she teaches at the Kansai KI-in's Go Salon.  She's been learning English since 2020 and could use it some last year when I saw her.

We will have an open format and no formal workshop.  She will play simuls, review games, answer questions, etc.  We will open SGC 4-7pm on Mon.  She arrives that day and will be tired from travel.  She will be at SGC Tue for open hours, and depending on her energy and dinner, she will stay until 7pm or 8pm.

Simul games will be $10 for voting members (annual and lifetime) and $20 for non-voting attendees.  At the Kansai Ki-in games are about $40 for members, so this is a good deal 😊.

Cheers,
Bill

Hello Go Players,

This year we are returning to the Bellevue Japan Fair (June 29th-30). I am looking for 2-3 Volunteers to help for set up and 6-8 volunteers to help man the booth from 10am-6pm. Last year was more busy than I expected so the extra volunteers are needed to help with this event. This is an indoor event (at the Meydenbauer Center) and there will be also lots of booths of artist and other Japanese inspired clubs and programs to check out when you get a little free time.

If you like to help out please reach out to me, along with any question you may have.

Thanks, man, already feeling a lot better but won't go out for 10 days or whatever the guidelines are.

Cheers,

I wanted to let people know that finally after four years I got covid.  It hit hard Thurs evening, and the only place I've been unmasked is SGC recently.  I wore my mask part of the evening, but it is still a good chance it was SGC since I was not masked the entire time.  Props to the 2-3 folks who always have their masks on.

Nothing can be done about it now, but I felt responsible to report it in case anyone else has symptoms now and as a reminder covid is still out there.  If this had happened the week before Go Congress, I'd be in a puddle of tears right now.  I will certainly be wearing my mask there 😊.

Cheers,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Pro Visits Update

Chihiro Sensei will visit Mon and Tue, 08-09 JUL, before the Go Congress.  She is a 1p who teaches at the Kansai Ki-in and runs a childrens program at a school in Osaka.  If you have attended the Osaka Go Camp, you have met her before.  We will likely just do simuls, random Go questions or game reviews, and possibly a lecture.  Simuls will be $10 for voting members and $20 for non-members.  There will be 1-2 reminders as we get close due to the Mon time being atypical.

The pro who was going to visit after the Go Congress has a work obligation and has to travel right after the congress.  That visit is cancelled for now.

Michael Redmond Sensei is coming 14-15 SEP.  We will have pre-registration for that event, and we may limit the number of attendees.  I still need to chat with him about details, but our basic plan we discussed so far is to have a "regular" workshop Sat and a strong players workshop Sun.  Sat attendees can come on Sun, but the focus on SUn will be on strong player simuls and game reviews or lecture directed at strong players.

Cheers,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Crossroads Meetup Update

Hi, folks, I'm a little slow in getting this announcement out, sorry.  Jay has some other activities and travel preventing him from hosting the Crossroads Mall meetup until after JUL.  It sounds like this meetup has several attendees, and new people show up too.  If someone wants to officially host it until AUG, Jay can pass the equipment to you; however, if no one wants to officially host it until AUG, people can just show up with their own boards and stones.  Some people show up with their own equipment already, so this meetup feels a bit self-sustaining at this point.  Of course, we appreciate Emma starting it and Jay continuing to host it each week!!

I will update you when Jay is back and showing up with his equipment.  In the meantime, if someone plans to always be there, please let us know if you'd like to get the equipment from Jay.

Thanks,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Go Congress -- Seattle Represents !! :-)

Some members suggested we organize a list of who is going to the Go Congress in Portland, just for fun and to know whom to look for. there  I was thinking we could also try to facilitate a ride share for those who wanted to offer rides or those without cars that might want a ride instead of the train.

If you feel like letting us know you are going to the Congress, shoot us an email.  If you have interest in offering a ride or would like to ride share, please add that info.  We can send an organizing email first week of JUL.  Reply to this mail or sent to programs@seattlego.org.

Cheers,
Bill
