[Seattle Go Center] Looking for 2-3 Volunteers for Orca con 1/10-1/12

Hey Go Players,

I am looking for 2-3 volunteers to help out with this years Orca Con, a small board gaming con this Jan 10th-12th. This event is a smaller and slower event so there will be lots of time to enjoy some different board games between periods of teaching Go to board game fans. It is located at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Seattle Airport (18740 International Blvd, Seattle, WA 98188).

If you can help out for a smaller event or like to learn more, please email me back.

[Seattle Go Center] OPENING LATE TODAY -- Saturday

Sorry, folks, River sadly transferred buses and left her purse on the bus (with bus pass and everything but phone).  Luckily, that bus driver was near the end of his route, and after his break, returned to the transfer station where River waited.

River expects to get to SGC by 1:30 or 1:45.

Very sorry for late opening, but we will be open.

Thanks,
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Championship Parking, Lunch, Final Notes

Hello, all.  The state championship is this Sat and Sun.  MOST IMPORTANTLY:
 * Registration is from 9am to 10am Saturday, with first round at 10:30am
 * Make sure your AGA membership is current, or we cannot include you
 * Parking will be challenging from 10am-6pm due to an event at Phinney Community Center
 * Plan for lunch or join the pizza order to avoid missing the start of the afternoon round

There is an Open Tournament for strong, qualifying attendees (all even games to determine the state champion) and a Handicap Ratings Tournament.  There will be 5 rounds -- two rounds Saturday and three rounds Sunday.  There is a handicap tournament like our monthly ratings tournaments, and you can play fewer than 5 rounds if you want.

SGC will order pizza for attendees' lunch convenience, and the cost is $15 per person per day (for 4 slices of a cheese or pepperoni large pie cut into 10 slices).

The top scoring player in the Open Tournament who has lived in Washington state for six months or more will win the 2024 Washington State Championship title and trophy.

The top scoring players in the Open Tournament that are employable in the United States win the championship prize money -- $300 for top score, $150 for second top score, and $75 for third top score.

Handicap Tournament cash prizes and youth prizes depend on registrations.

You must have a current AGA membership.  Please renew ahead of time to make registration easier and to make starting on time possible.  Go to AGA membership join/update page to check your membership status, renew, or join.  Parents, you must make sure your kids are valid members.  If someone cannot become an AGA member before the first round of pairing, you cannot play because we submit all game records to the AGA.

More Details:
* Registration time: December 7th, 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM
* Saturday First Round Starts: December 7th, 10:30 AM (second round around 2:00pm)
* Sunday Third Round Starts: December 8th, 10:30 AM (fourth around 1:30pm, fifth round around 3:30pm)
* Entry Free: $20 for non-voting members, $10 for voting members, Youth (under 18) are free (the $10 fee is paid by a grant from AGF), and spectators are free.
* Time Controls: 45 mins main time with 5 byo-yomi periods of 30 seconds.
* Tie-Breaker: SOS (sum of opponent scores), SODOS (sum of defeated opponents' scores), and lastly a tie-breaking game

This event is sponsored by the AGA State Championship fund, the AGA Tournament Support Program, and the Seattle AGA Chapter. Big thanks to the AGA for their support.

[Seattle Go Center] New Meetup in North Bend, WA

Hi, all.  Just a quick announcement that SGC is sponsoring a new meetup out in North Bend, WA.  They will meet Fridays from 1-4pm at the Mt Si Senior Center.  Hopefully we'll find a large community of Go players or new learners in the Snoqualmie Valley (North Bend, Snoqualmie, Fall City, and even maybe Issaquah), and we can create an additional evening or weekend meetup that might be easier for some folks to attend.

If you're able to join in the meetup, we look forward to seeing you, playing Go, and spreading the joy and thrill of this game.

Cheers,
Bill
