Subject: Insei Teacher Cho Seokbin Workshop -- 21-22 JUN

Cho Seokbin (first name is Seokbin) is a former Korean insei and one of the strongest amateurs currently.  He held the Japan Amateur Kisei title.  He started a Go school in 2013 in Japan, and six of his students became pros.

Seokbin is visiting Seattle, 21-22 JUN, and he agreed to do a two-day workshop at SGC (thanks to one of our volunteers for connecting us).  SGC will be closed on Saturday, 21 JUN, for general game play (open only for the workshop attendees).

This photo is from an interview by Sorin when Seokbin visited SGC in 2007: http://361points.com/choseokbin/.

We will have our usual format:
 * Start time Sat and Sun is 10am.  Registration from 10-10:30am Sat with mingling and visiting with Seokbin.  We'll go until about 5pm each day.
 * We will break for lunch roughly around noon or 12:30, and we will order pizza.  Pizza costs $15/day, choice of either cheese or pepperoni, and we will order enough for four slices per person.  You can also bring your lunch.
 * The class costs is $30 per day for non-voting members (or $50 for both days) and $20 per day voting members (lifetime or annual).

We hope to see you there.  Studying with pros and strong insei is a great way to get new insights into Go.

Cheers,
Bill

Hello Go Players,

This May 24th, we are hosting another Lightning tournament from 2pm to 6pm.  This is a casual, lots-of-fun handicap tournament with fast time control (1 min main time with 5x10second byouyomi).  They say lightning Go is about instinct, not reading, so abandon the intensity of reading for more cutting and crashing and burning and laughter.  There will be 5 rounds with an estimated 20-30 min per game.

I look forward to seeing you there and lets us start the year with some lighting fast games.

Hello Go Players,

One of the successes of all the volunteers that help make outreach events great is creating excitement for new Go players, even if it is harder for them to enjoy SGC directly.

At our recent outreach event, some folks asked if we could help organize a meetup in Lynnwood.  A couple of Go players and the owner of Zulu's Board Game Cafe want to create a meetup on Mondays or Wednesdays (other evenings might be possible), and they are open until 11pm.  The shop owner doesn't want staff managing the meetup, and the two Go players know they can't attend every week.  They are hoping there's enough interest that one (or two people) is willing to be the meetup contact person and attend most times to get out equipment, etc.  The cafe is willing to buy a few Go sets and keep them at the shop for the meetup.

Please let us know if you would like to see a meetup in Lynnwood and If you could be a host/contact.  Send mail to programs@seattlego.org

Hi Go Players,

We are returning to the U-District Street Fair (May 17th-18th). This is a large outdoor event where we teach hundreds of people the game of Go. I am looking for 6-8 Volunteers to help with teaching people and 2-4 people help with setup and take down. We do need to bring our own tables so an extra set of hands are very welcome.

Outside of the set up, this event tends to be very fun and easy going. there are lots of booths and even some live music to enjoy with the festivities.

If you can help out with either teaching or setup/takedown, Please let me know. If you are curious about the event or have question, I am also happy to try to answer any questions as best I can.
