[Seattle Go Center] Final Info -- 30th Anniversary and Pro Workshop -- 04-05 OCT

Final info for Seattle Go Center's 30th birthday celebration....  Please come and share stories and share the gratitude that we get to have a real Go Center in Seattle, thanks to Iwamoto Sensei and those who donate and buy memberships!!

The party is on 04 OCT, Sat, at 6pm.  Sat and Sun 10am-5pm, we will have a pro workshop with Nihon Ki-in's Komatsu Daiki Sensei 4p who runs a strong program for kids in Osaka.  There won't be a ratings tournament that weekend due to the pro workshop (see announcement for the Anniversary Tournament in OCT).  We'll cater some food (spring rolls, chicken skewers, stir fry), have a nice birthday cake, Chris may make Japanese shokupan milk bread for us, and we'll have nihonshu (you can bring your own beverages too).

The pro workshop is free to voting members (annual or lifetime) and costs $30 for others.  That's $30 for two days or about 12-14 hours of pro teaching and Q&A.

Cheers!!
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] 30th Anniversary and Pro Workshop -- 04-05 OCT

[More info in this reminder ...]

Hey Go Community!!!  This year is Seattle Go Center's 30th birthday.  Please come and help us celebrate.

Seattle was very lucky to be anointed with one of Iwamoto Sensei's Go Centers.  It was a close decision with other cities being considered.  We've been grateful to him and the Nihon Ki-in for supporting Go in the Seattle area, both at SGC and the remote meetups we're able to help out.

I moved to Seattle in NOV 1995, saw the iconic billboard sign that has drawn so many to SGC, and immediately stopped what I was doing to go there and see what up.  I came from Pittsburgh where barely five people played Go seriously.  Crazy to think the synchronicity that I moved here just one month after SGC opened.  Fri nights were the big gathering then, with upwards of 8-10 people attending 😊.

We will have a party 04 OCT, Sat, at 6pm and a two-day workshop with a pro from the Nihon Ki-in (Komatsu Daiki Sensei who runs a strong program for kids in Osaka).  There won't be a ratings tournament that weekend due to the Nihon Ki-in sending someone for our anniversary (we'll have the Anniversary Tournament later in OCT).  We'll cater some food (spring rolls, chicken skewers, stirfry), have a nice birthday cake, Chris may make Japanese shokupan milk bread for us, and we'll have nihonshu (you can bring your own beverages too).

The pro workshop will be free to voting members (annual or lifetime) and cost $30 for others.  That's $30 for two days or about 12-14 hours of pro teaching and Q&A.

Cheers!!
Bill

[Seattle Go Center] Looking for Volunteers for Japan Week

Hello Go players,

This October 11th, we are returning to Bellevue College for their Japan Week. This is an one day event with a focus of spreading Japanese culture. We are hosting a table indoors from 10am-5pm.  This is a medium size event as we got a little over a hundred attendents last year, and our table space was pretty busy. Because of this, I would really appreciate having 5-6 volunteers for the day. There is also an outdoor event Go game that the college is also hosting and I am looking for another 1-2 volunteers to help with that (please let me know if you want to help with the outdoor game in the email). Setup should be easy as its indoor event, but I am hopeful that 1-2 people be willing to with setup/taking down.

The event also has a lot of nice little booths and activities that you can check out in your free time such as, Cosplay contest, Origami, Kendama, and other Japanese programs and activities along with japanese food being served in the cafeteria.

If you would like to help with the main event or outdoor go game, or just like to know more about this event please email me.
