Go fans:
I just received this announcement for the Cotsen this year a few moments ago. I am forwarding it to all of you who may be interested in attending the Cotsen this year. I know how hard it is to exceed the exceptional offerings of the Cotsen, but they seem to have really stepped it up a couple of notches this year.
I hope to see many of you there. If you're interested in fielding a team, please let me know.
Best wishes,
Gordon

Dear Southern California Go Players,
1. Finally! The Cotsen, this year to be known as the "Cotsen Go Tournament and Pro Qualifier," is set for April 28-29 at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles' Mid-Wilshire District. The detailed arrangements are still being worked out, so you can't register yet, but the date is set and the venue booked. The tournament will feature all elements you've come to know … tough competition, good prizes, cool trophies, Mr. Yang 7p, neck massage and good food … but with two additional features this year. One is that the open section will choose at least one player to play in the AGA's first ever Pro Certification tournament in North Carolina in August. The other is that, as a gift to the US go community, the KBA is sending a VIP delegation including either three or four professionals who will do simultaneous games, game reviews and commentary with the players. This is liable to be the best Cotsen ever, which is saying something. Until the registration is set up, send any questions to me at abc@okun.name.
2. Reminder: This coming Saturday is the ratings tournament in Woodland Hills. Contact Joe Walters walters.jg@gmail.com to RSVP or ask questions. Details below:
Please Join Us at the Woodland Hills Go Group Tournament, March 10, 2012
The Woodland Hills Go Group invites you to participate in our first ratings tournament, to be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the Westfield Promenade Mall in Woodland Hills, California.
It will be a self-paired tournament consisting of a minimum of 3 games. While we have no plans for prizes of any significant value, you will enjoy bragging rights, AGA ratings, and a lot of fun.
There is no fee for playing in the tournament. However, you must either be an AGA member in good standing (paid up at time of playing), or pay a one-time AGA tournament privilege fee of $10. Non-AGA members can join the AGA through their home clubs at a discounted price of $15 for a one-year membership. If you don't belong to an AGA chapter you can join through the Woodland Hills Go Group, which is a chapter of the American Go Assoc.
You may play anyone you like at the tournament, but there is a maximum 3 stone handicap. You and your opponent must agree upon the handicap before the game starts. AGA tournament rules will apply. You can find them at: http://www.usgo.org/resources/downloads/completerules.pdf.
For the address of and directions to the Westfield Promenade, see their website: http://www.westfield.com/topanga/directions. The tournament will be held in the upstairs area of the food court, right by the AMC movie theater. You can't miss it: just go into the food court and look up.
Please reply to this email to RSVP so we can get a count to make sure we reserve enough room to accommodate all the games.
