Ha! I just started reading this myself a few days ago. Yeah, it has a neat Technocracy/Kerberos/New Inquisition feel to it so far, and the chess-styled hierarchy is interesting. Having ran a whole chess-themed arc to a WT campaign a few years ago, I'm always fascinated by what people do with chess: it's very symbolically rich, like tarot or the zodiac. Good inspirational material for foils and threats!

I haven't seen this mentioned here but thought the community might be interested in the book I am reading: The Rook by Daniel O'Malley. It is sort of like a present day Kerberos Club. Actually it is very like except that the Queen is/was not a Talent and normal people do not know that there is anything different.Basically there is a ministry for paranormal things staffed by Talents and normals and they deal with paranormal threats to Britain hushing them up etc. There is a sister "branch" in the US, as for the rest of the world, I haven't made it that far in the book yet to see if that is described save for some "sorcerers" in Belgium that seem to be stirring up trouble. The writing is good, and while the main character starts with amnesia In Media Res, it flows well and of course allows for the reader to discover the world without having to read the source book first.c--
