A friend of mine went over there a couple of years ago, checking out Normandy as well as some of the World War I battlefields. I was very jealous...
He had some very interesting anecdotes about the people living on the Great War battlefields. For one thing, they're still digging up shells. The woman who owned the B&B he stayed in lost her son to one. Mind you, it was a Mills bomb and he decided he would clean it up (for her small in-house museum) with a grinder. Yeah, heat, sparks, vibrations and almost 100 year old unexploded ordnance don't mix...
