[Seattle Go Center] Pandanet-AGA City League Tournament

Attention Strong Players:

Pandanet is funding an on-line team tournament that has a prize purse of over $11,000. This is being done in cooperation with the American Go Association, and all players must have AGA memberships. There will be 10 rounds starting in January. The two leading teams will finish the tournament in person at the US Go Congress this summer in Tacoma at Pacific Lutheran University.  Players are encouraged to do their own fundraising to cover their Go Congress expenses.  Registration of teams is due by Dec. 20 – coming up soon.

Here is more information (and more rules):

Oren Laskin has kindly volunteered to act as a non-playing captain, to organize a team or teams from the Seattle area, so please contact him if you are interested.

Here is more information on the prizes, from the AGA Tournament Director, Karoline Burrall:

The prize fund (not including some congress comps for the top two teams in the A league) is about 11,000. The first prize in the A league is going to be about 5,000 with prizes going to 4th in the A league. The top two teams in the lower leagues getting prizes as well, though not as much as the A league.

I think in terms of team budgets, I think that the most important thing is that the final game between the top 2 teams is at Go Congress, so strong teams should probably plan on attending. Again, some congress comps will be provided for these teams.

Cheers,

Brian
