Dear Go Center Members,
We recently received the sad news that Go Center member David Lumsdaine died on February 27 in Massachusetts from complications following a heart attack. David was 64. For the last 5 years, David had been teaching political science and international relations at Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts. We often saw him at holiday and summer breaks. Prior to that, he taught at Seoul National University and the Korean Development Institute in Seoul. Earlier, he taught for a number of years at Yale University.
David was a strong enough baduk player to find games in the Korean clubs. At the Go Center, inspired by the Tuesday night banter, he contributed some terrible puns. David enjoyed teaching kyu players, especially kids, and he helped many of us to start thinking about the whole game, rather than the local fight. We will miss him.
If anybody has a good photo of David, we would greatly appreciate a copy.
Sincerely,
Brian
