So, I've discussed the conversion and many of you have been extremely helpful in clarifying. Now, is anyone interested in joining a game via IRC? I lost a player recently due to the horrors of trying to keep his job, so I'm hoping to add one more to get back up to four. We play Saturdays, 8pm to Midnight Eastern time. I'll run side sessions on occasion too, if players desire it.
Delta Factor is a setting originally inspired by Wild Cards, later influenced by Aberrant. We try to play "the real world" plus superpowers, but things have given way over time and it's a little less "real" these days. PCs were originally ordinary people who had recently Expressed, now trying to live their lives in a world which wasn't ready for them. Over the years of play (seven years in the "real world" and 14 years in the game world), the focus has shifted. PCs have grown in ability and experience, as well as growing as people. Current tales are less "getting by" and more "taking charge."
The Setting's first tipping point was September 11, 2001. That was the day a cowardly terrorist attack was stopped by the world's first Delta. Well, not stopped, but... greatly reduced. Jacob Richter, who would be later known as Polaris, was a regular guy, who expressed when his tower was struck. He saved thousands that day, put out fires, stopped the second plane, and generally changed the paradigm of the world.
Game play began at the tale end of March, 2006. PCs has all expressed in the past month or so in various circumstances:
Daniel was looking for his runaway daughter,
Aeris WAS a runaway (but not Daniel's daughter), and
Doris was a bitter old woman whose expression made her young again... but no less bitter.
Along the way they met other PCs:
Kevin, a computer programming student;
Katrina, a girl with stars in her eyes;
Mallory, a girl raised in a restrictive religious family who thought she'd become a witch;
Rich, who used his power in the service of his country until he pissed off the wrong general;
Colin, the luckiest - or perhaps unluckiest - man in the world;
Selene, a master thief and master of disguise; and
Trevor, a filmmaker using his powers of illusion to create amazing visual effects.
Today, in July, 2020,
Daniel is dead, but his daughter Sarah lives on;
Aeris is a Lawyer and lobbyist fighting for the rights of Deltas;
her wife Katrina is a pop star and actress;
Rich is a federal agent with the newly formed all-Delta Precision Tactical Response Unit;
Colin is an aerospace engineer;
Selene is retired and married, but still occasionally takes to the street to blow off some steam;
Doris lives alone in the woods of Russia, having left behind a world she no longer cares for;
Mallory has accepted herself but rejected the frantic life of her friend in favor of a quiet live with her girlfriend and the small restaurant they opened;
Kevin is a successful consultant who put more man-hours of work in a single day than most do in a month or more - and his invoices reflect that work.
Trevor has won some acclaim for his work and is getting ready to begin his next project.
The heroes have weathered a surge which enhanced the power of nearly every Delta on the planet. Things are still sorting themselves out, but they've gone in search of an old friend... the one responsible for unleashing the surge. Some of them want to arrest her, some want to help her. But before they can do either they have to fight off the team trying to kill her.
Big events along the way included...
the attempted assassination of Jacob "Polaris" Richter, caught live on several news cameras, in 2006
the appearance of "Quantum" the first Delta to put on a costume, adopt her own super-identity, and fly out to fight crime, in 2007
the outing of Quantum a few months later because Secret Identities are nigh impossible to maintain in the real world (In 2020 there are exactly TWO successful, long-term, costumed superheroes who have maintained secret identities in the entire WORLD).
The disappearance in 2009 of the first Delta to be elected to national office, Congressman Scot Hastings (officially declared dead in 2016).
The attempted assassination of Polaris at around the same time, this time with a bombing which killed three bystanders
The rise of Stella Lancaster from vapid heiress to owner of the largest Pharmaceutical company in the United States.
A huge Riot at Lompoc Federal Penitentiary, the only facility in the US capable of holding most Delta criminals.
The Black Friday Outbreak in 2017, which killed thousands and forced hundreds of new expressions
A massive meteor strike in June, 2019 which struck four cities in the US, followed by a devastating strike on Washington DC two months later.
A near war with North Korea earlier in 2020, averted at the last minute with evidence showing they were not responsible for the attacks months earlier.
Of course, there's a lot more, and a lot of smaller tales which didn't make national news. We have seven years worth of backstory at this point. :)
Any interest?
