Dear Members,
This August, the U.S. Go Congress will be in New York City at the Hotel Pennsylvania in midtown Manhattan. More information is at:
Many young people attend the Go Congress, but they have to be accompanied by an adult. There are special programs and opportunities for kids. While this gets expensive for folks in the state of Washington, there are three scholarships available for local youth. The American Go Foundation is offering a $200 scholarship to youth who want to attend the Go Congress. They have to write an essay to apply. There is still time to apply for this. The second AGF scholarship program is for youth competing in the Redmond Cup, which is under way, and in the North American Kyu Championship, which is already finished. The third scholarship comes from the Seattle Go Center.
Using a gift from the Seattle Chapter of the AGA, the Seattle Go Center will provide up to $300 in additional scholarship funds to youth from the State of Washington who are attending the US Go Congress. The total funds available are $1,200; if there are more than four qualified youth by May 30, they will divide up the $1,200 proportionately. The Seattle Go Center funds are intended as a supplement to the current AGF scholarships for the Go Congress.
If youth have already completed their AGF scholarship application, no additional forms will be needed for the supplemental scholarship funds from the Seattle Go Center. They should simply notify Paul Barchilon at youth@usgo.org that they are interested in the additional help. For more information about the AGF Go Congress scholarship program, which is still taking applications, please go to this link:
