Dear Go Players,
Although Andrew will not be teaching tonight, the Go Center will be open at 7:00 p.m., and we will be having cake in honor of Go Seigen's 100th birthday. Go Seigen (吳清源)is living in Japan. He is often considered the greatest player of the 20th Century. Go Seigen was a 12 year old living in China when our founder, Kaoru Iwamoto, first played him. From what I've read, Iwamoto may have been the first Japanese professional to play him. Go Seigen moved to Japan from China when he was 14, in 1928, to study and play Go. By then, he was already of professional strength. More information is at Sensei's Library, one of my favorite websites:
http://senseis.xmp.net/?GoSeigen
If somebody is brave enough to do a game review of one of Go Seigen's games, that would be great. Otherwise we will just have informal study and games until 9 pm.
Regards,
Brian
