[Seattle Go Center] Programming class *is* Wednesday; Tournament Sunday; thanks for the pears!

Hello fellow Go enthusiasts,

Current Go Center news:

Programming Computer Go -- Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30
Drew apologizes for the schedule glitch last Wednesday, and says
he's eager to get the Programming Computer Go class going tomorrow,
October 30.  These sessions will be weekly on Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30 PM,
loosely modeled on the book "Deep Learning and the Game of Go",
primarily structured around Python and Tensorflow, but Drew can help you
adapt the materials to the ML package of your choice.  Programming
experience is not required (but basic computer literacy is expected).

Ratings Tournament this Sunday, Nov. 3!
Registration 10:00-10:45 AM
(Remember to set your clocks back 1 hour)
This is a great way to play some intense face-to-face Go! Three
rounds, Japanese rules, 45 minutes per player plus byo-yomi.  You do not
have play all 3 rounds (just inform the Tournament Director of your plans).
There's no tournament entry fee, though the Go Center membership
policies apply: younger than 18 free, first 10 visits free; otherwise,
$5 for one-day membership (see http://www.seattlego.org/membership for
other options).
And you need to be a current AGA member -- visit
https://www.usgo.org/members to join or renew.  You can join / renew in
person at the Go Center, but please come early to do that.  And if you
like, please consider affiliating your membership with Seattle AGA
Chapter (it helps us with voting in AGA elections, and helps us earn
reimbursements).
- Registration: 10:00-10:45 AM.
- First round starts: 11:00 AM.
- Lunch:  People usually eat when they finish the first round. There are
food options nearby, but we recommend that you bring lunch to the Go
Center rather than going out for food.
Second round starts:  Generally by 1:30 PM, but may be earlier,
depending on when the first round ends.
- Last round ends:  Usually by 5:30 PM, approximately.

Fresh pears -- thank you!
Thank you to the person(s) who brought Asian pears for the Go
Center!  We were able to get them from the veterinary clinic, and
they're aromatic and wonderful.

Mox Boarding House last Wednesday
Thanks to John Boy and Leif for staffing our tables at Mox last
week, and Peter for stopping in to say "hi"!  We taught 3 or 4 people
how to play Go, and had games with another 6 or 7 who already knew the
game.  The numbers were low but the enthusiasm was high, and it looks
like the Go Center will be supporting a monthly outreach event there,
probably on a Wednesday.  Stay tuned for further details.

See you soon at the Go Center,
