[Seattle Go Center] Volunteers needed - outreach; day managers

Hello fellow Go fans,

The Go Center needs your help!  We're looking for volunteers to help with outreach.  And we're looking for more Day Managers.

"Outreach" is sharing the game of Go with new players!  Someone helped you figure out the game, so, help pass along the favor.  Don't feel that you don't know enough to help teach, because:
    (1) Your contagious enthusiasm for the game is the most important element of teaching.
    (2) Beginners just need help seeing when stones are captured -- there's no need to worry about joseki patterns or advanced strategies.
    (3) Experienced Go Center instructors can help you plan a beginner lesson and practice it beforehand.
    (4) Explaining something to someone else is the best way to truly learn it.  Your own Go understanding will benefit!

If you can help the following dates and locations, please email programs@SeattleGo.org

Wed. Dec. 18, 6pm-8pm at Uwajimaya, 600 5th Avenue S., Seattle, WA 98104

    ("Monthly Games Day")

Day Managers are people who act as Go Center hosts.  Typically a Day Manager will unlock the door, empty the dishwasher, take out the trash, answer the phone, greet members and visitors (and remind them to sign in), show newcomers around, and lock up.  Some days you might help people find an appropriate game; other days, you might teach a new player the rules.
We're looking for a few more volunteer Day Managers; and as our Saturday manager reduces his schedule to have more time with family, we're considering adding a paid Day Manager.  If you're interested, please talk to Mike or Brian:  manager@SeattleGo.org

Thanks for thinking about it. See you soon at the Go Center,

Mike Malveaux
