[Seattle Go Center] Go online Tuesday - Bunka no Hi online - Maeda Sensei's Go School online

Hello fellow Go enthusiasts!

Seattle Go community continues to Stay Home - Stay Safe.  The Go Center Board of Directors is considering when it will be prudent to re-open, and it probably won't be until Seattle is in Phase III of the Safe Start Phased Reopening Plan.

That's bad news for face-to-face games of Go, but there is still online Go.  The Go Center Discord Server remains active as a great place to meet and arrange to play on KGS or OGS, and the voice channels are nice for reviewing games afterward.  And tomorrow (October 13), we'll start hosting Tuesday Zoom sessions, 6:30 - 9:30 pm.  (Actually, I'll be online starting about 4 pm, so if you want to hang out a little early, drop on in!)

Another upcoming fun online event -- the Bunka no Hi / Japanese Culture Festival at JCCCW!  (Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington -- the Go Center sometimes partners with JCCCW to do Go outreach at their Japanese culture fairs.)  Here is their invitation:

Bunka no Hi is going virtual this year! Bunka no Hi, or Japanese Culture Festival, is a free festival dedicated to celebrating, commemorating, and educating the public about Japanese and Japanese American Culture in the Seattle area. We hope you can join us from the safety of your home during our "Virtual Bunka no Hi", which will include a new video every Sunday at noon (PDT) during the month of November.

The new cultural videos will be available on the JCCCW's YouTube channel. Viewers can learn about Seattle's Japantown (Nihonmachi), manga graphic novels, storytelling (kamishibai), taiko performances, mochi pounding (mochitsuki), and Japanese New Year's mochi soup (ozoni).

We encourage you to invite your friends and family from across the country and around the world! The event is FREE to join!

Also online -- Maeda Sensei's Osaka International Go School!  Every month there are 4 games with other students (all games reviewed), 2 lectures, and one simul game with a pro (also reviewed).  The cost is $100/mo if you sign up for more than one month, and there is a price for just viewing lectures and game reviews.  Our own Bill Chiles is a student, and he expressed complete satisfaction.  It's a good way to get serious, fun games each month, and the reviews are the icing on the cake.  Bill says that each lesson brings him something new to apply to his games, a perspective he hadn't considered.  The E-Journal also mentioned the school in August:  https://www.usgo.org/news/2020/08/international-osaka-go-school-to-open-in-september/

PS - Not a joke this time, but a video that I've been watching sometimes when I need a boost:
You may recognize something from "The Treasure Chest Enigma".  (Thank you, Nihon Ki-in.)
