This week's SDK to Dan Level Lectures will be cancelled the day of August 4th, as the instructor, Haichen Zhu will be at the Go Congress in Estes Park. Our Chris Kirschner will also be there, so  unfortunately we'll be without his bread this week as well.

Beginning this Wednesday, August 3rd, the Seattle Go Center will host a four-week course aimed at young beginners.

This Saturday, August 6th, the SGC will be at the From Hiroshima To Hope event at Green Lake, Seattle, from 5:30-7:00pm. We will be replaying the Atomic Bomb Game, which was played played by our benefactor, Mr. Kaoru Iwamoto 9p.

The Seattle Go Center would also like to remind it's members that we have 3 new deals for them to take advantage of : Go MagicAI-Sensei, & a digital subscription to the European Go Journal.

Go Magic is currently offering SGC members 20% off subscriptions to their platform.

Go Magic is a platform that aims to put everything about Go, all in one place. This includes interactive lectures, a skill tree, rewards for completing courses and problems, articles, and a friendly community on Discord where you can ask questions about Go.

AI-Sensei is currently offering SGC members a one-month Basic subscription for free. This level of analysis will consist of 500 playouts and variations of about 10 moves in length. You can learn more by viewing their FAQ.

In addition to a great UI, users can post to the community to ask for advice or help.

The Seattle Go Center is offering SGC members a digital subscription to the European Go Journal at the discounted Go Club rate of $3.50 an issue.

You can find a copy of their first issue here as a free sample.

The European Go Journal is a monthly journal about the game of go, officially supported by the European Go Federation (EGF). It was launched in February 2021. The journal is compiled and written by Artem Kachanovskyi, 2-dan professional of the EGF, and co-written, proofread, and designed by his Team.

The EGJ is a roughly 50-page A4 magazine featuring the following go-related topics:

  • Recent go news - focused mainly on Europe but including major events from around the globe.
  • Game commentary.
  • Interviews with go players.
  • Art and photography.
  • AI studies - analysis of fuseki and joseki with superhuman go computer programs.
  • World of Tesuji – Remarkable moves from professional games.
  • Problems and answers.

[Seattle Go Center] Looking for Volunteers for "From Hiroshima To Hope"

Hello Go players,

I need 2-3 voulnteers that be willing to play out the Atomic Bomb (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Go_games#Atomic_bomb_game) at the "From Hiroshima To Hope" (https://fromhiroshimatohope.org/). This event would be on August 6th (Saturday) and last 90 mins to 2 hours of slowly placing stones. Its a more light outreach as it will be just slowly playing out the game and answering question about the importants of the game and our history with it.

If you are interested in helping out, please email back

[Seattle Go Center] Return of Lectures with Haichen Zhu’s SDK to Dan

Hello all Go members,

I know its been a while since we had lectures at the SGC, but I'm happy to announce that we finally have lecture returning.
Beginning Thursday, July 14th (so just a week), the SGC will be hosting weekly lectures aimed at helping SDK players reach the Dan levels. These lectures will take place between 6:30pm and 8:00pm, and be given by Haichen Zhu, amateur 7-Dan, and experienced teacher.

Although the focus is on SDK, I do welcome anyone that is curious or misses our lectures to attend.

Special thanks to Haichen Zhu for offering to teach and share his knowledge.

If you like to learn about this program more, Please feel free to reach out to me at programs@seattlego.org
