[Seattle Go Center] Re: SGC Update and Meetups

Hello, folks.  I'm happy to announce where Seattle Go Center will be re-opening.  Barring any unforeseen cosmic events, we will re-open for the fall in Phinney Community Center, hopefully by 12 SEP, Tue.  There is potential for us to stay there until we can buy a permanent place, about 4 years, but we will continue to look for a commercial rental during the fall if something pops up that is really good.

We're excited to be a part of Phinney, another 501c3 that is trying to do good and develop community, and we've gotten good feedback from folks we randomly surveyed.  We used to do outreach here frequently, there's good eateries nearby, two frequent bus lines, lots of free parking onsite, all cyclists I talked to were happy, and there are MANY folks of all ages flowing through the campus whom we may engage and attract to Go.

Of course, no place is going to be perfect.  Phinney is a few more minutes' driving from the i5 corridor and off the light rail line, so from some places another bus change or whatnot will add some angst for some.  We adhered to the dominant survey feedback, and it is tough if not impossible to hit all the desires for temporary rental space  (size, transit, parking, not too far out on the edges of North Seattle, accessible during our hours, restrooms, good/clean/safe area, etc.).  The space could be bigger, but the price is below our budget for rent which, if sustainable, will help us get through the next four years with more to spend on a permanent place.

Of course, send any questions, and please stay tuned for a final, definite date and details on where to go.

Cheers,
Bill

Subject: SGC Update and Meetups

Hey, all.  We think we've found a temporary place to house SGC at least for the fall beginning 12 SEP.  We're still working through some details and still looking at 4 year rentals until we can search for a permanent home.  I will update you when we know for sure when we'll re-open and where.

EASTSIDE FOLKS.  Emma Huang, a long time youth member, who used to regularly come to ratings tournaments and has studied with Mr. Yang, is leading a meetup at the Crossroads Mall.  This Saturday she will begin hosting a group in the food court near the King County Library (KCLS) every week from 2-5pm.  She last year spearheaded a school Go club, and she has equipment to bring to the meetup.  You can contact her at emmayhuang07@gmail.com.  I will try to get her an SGC poster she can put on a chair or table to help folks find her ... in case gobans and stones aren't a good clue 🙂.  Thanks to Emma for helping eastsiders meet and helping SGC with its mission to promote Go and cultural exchange.

The Zoka group is still meeting Mondays 9am-12pm.

I hope to see people at SGC soon.  We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through the current situation.

Cheers,
Bill
