[Seattle Go Center] Fundraising and Anniversary Tournament 20 OCT

Hello, Go community.  This is our annual request for donations and support for SGC to have enough funds for operations and to demonstrate public support to keep our 501c3 Public Charity status.  This status is the gold standard of non-profits and allows us to seek contributions from critical sources we otherwise could not receive.  One of the best ways you can support us is to buy an annual or lifetime membership (https://www.seattlego.org/membership/).  However, every donation (link below) no matter how small adds up and helps.

We have a goal to raise $5000 this fall to help us maintain our Public Charity status and fund events.

We are trying something new this year for fun, if also a bit cheesy 😊.  We decided to make SGC coffee cups to give as thank you gifts (like publicly supported radio stations).  I've included pictures.  If an annual membership ($250) is too much, and 10-punch cards are best for you ($50), then possibly donating $100 to get a coffee cup is a good middle ground for you to help SGC.  NOTE, we cannot sell these cups for legal reasons, only give them away as part of fundraising if you donate online: https://www.seattlego.org/donate/.

PLEASE help us reach our goal and re-up your membership or donate as you are able.

On to more fun stuff ... ANNIVERSARY TOURNAMENT 20 OCT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will have both open (all even games) and handicap tournaments.  The open tournament is for the 8 strongest players and will have a cash prize of $150 for the player winning 3 games.  Our handicap tournament will also have cash prizes for those who win 3 games (or divided over those who win 2 games if no one wins 3).  There is our usual kids prize of $25 for the person under 18 years old who wins the most games (playing with higher ranks break ties).

[Seattle Go Center] Looking for Volunteers for Japan Week

Hello Go players,

This October 5th, we are returning to Bellevue College for their Japan Week. This is an one day event with a focus of spreading Japanese culture. We are hosting a table indoors from 10am-5pm.  This is a medium size event as we got a little over a hundred attendents last year, and our table space was pretty busy. Because of this, I would really appreciate having 5-6 volunteers for the day. There is also an outdoor event Go game that the college is also hosting and I am looking for another 1-2 volunteers to help with that. Setup should be easy as its indoor event, but I am hopeful that 1-2 people be willing to with setup/taking down.

The event also has a lotof nice little booths and activities that you can check out in your free time such as, Cosplay contest, Origami, Kendama, and other Japanese programs and activities along with japanese food being served in the cafeteria.

If you would like to help with the main event or outdoor go game, or just like to know more about this event please email me.

[Seattle Go Center] SGC Closure and Redmond Class Parking

Hey, all.  I will send one reminder (and we will post on the website) that we will be closed Saturday, 14 SEP, for general attendance.  Only those attending the Redmond workshop can attend that day.

For those attending Sunday's workshop, 15 SEP, there will be no parking in the parking lot.  Those arriving at 9:30 will likely find parking on the street, but as the day progresses, more and more folks will be parking in the area for the event at Phinney Community Center.  Please be prepared to park farther away and walk (probably up hill).

Lastly, I've been emailing Redmond workshop attendees about lunch, and I have not heard from 12 of you.  Some of you have responded and not yet paid.

Thanks,
Bill

Hello Go players,

With the return of the school year, SGC is resuming Kids Time.  Starting on the September 8th and every 2nd Sunday of the month, SGC will be open from 1pm to 4pm.  The focus is to help kids learn while having fun.  All skill levels are welcome.

A special thanks to Heath for volunteering to host.  Heath helps with a lot of outreach and is a good beginner teacher.

If you have any question, or like to learn more about this event, please feel free to email us
