TRANSPORTATION: Parking on campus is free on the weekends. If you're coming from downtown Portland, you can take the Pioneer Express shuttle bus:

http://www.lclark.edu/offices/transportation_and_parking/shuttle/

FOOD: There is a coffee shop (Maggie's) open on campus; Fields Dining Room is open for lunch and dinner. Info on these establishments can be found here:

http://www.cafebonappetit.com/lewisandclark/

Note that Maggie's doesn't open until noon on the weekend, so if you need an infusion of caffeine before your first round, bring something along.

CHILDREN: We definitely want to encourage children to play and enjoy the game. We also want adults to be able to concentrate without excessive distraction or disruption. We therefore must insist that all children under 9 be supervised by a non-playing adult.

[Seattle Go Center] DDK Class Monday: Go Teacher Showdown!

Hi Everyone!

This Monday will be my last class teaching at the Seattle Go Center for the rest of the summer! Don't worry though, the wonderful Daniel Top has agreed to step in during my absence and the class will continue as normal after this week with a new instructor. To usher in this new dynasty, Daniel and I will play a game live in the class and discuss the reasoning behind all of our moves with all of you. This is a great way to gain insight into the minds of stronger players and for you all to be introduced to Daniel; you don't want to miss it!

I hope to see you all there!

[Seattle Go Center] 20 beginners coming saturday

Dear Go Players,

This Saturday, June 21, we will have 20 beginners visiting us around 2:00 p.m.  I have a couple of teachers lined up, but more are welcome to help out.  We will be open our regular hours 1-7 PM.

Traffic alert: Traffic on I-5 will probably be worse than usual, since the 520 bridge is closed for construction this weekend, and Rt 99 is mostly closed down for construction.  45th St will have extra traffic because of the Fremont Fair.  This is a good weekend to walk or ride your bike!

Cheers,

[Seattle Go Center] Thursday options

Dear Go Players,

The Go Center will open at 2 pm today, with Frank F as the afternoon volunteer.  I will be there this evening, starting at 7:00, to teach the beginners class.  Usually there are also kyu players at the Center in the evening playing games.

In Bellevue, our meet-up continues from 5:30 – 8:30 pm at the Crossroads mall, near Uncle’s Games.  This attracts a mixture of dan and kyu level players.  There were 11 players there last week.

Also on Thursdays, John Richards is at the Couth Buzzard bookstore and café, from 6-9 pm.  They are at 8310 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, WA 98103.  This group is mostly kyu players, some of them drinking beer or wine.

Cheers,

Brian

[Seattle Go Center] Thursday Events + cake

Dear Go Players,

This Thursday, the Go Center will be open from 2-9 pm.  We usually have a small group on Thursday afternoons.  Dan players and strong kyu players can find games.  In the evening, Frank Lam will be teaching beginners and near beginners.  Kyu players can also find games.

Everybody is welcome to share the leftover birthday cake, celebrating Go Seigen’s 100th birthday.  He is still studying and playing Go in Japan.

Cheers,

[Seattle Go Center] 吳清源 Birthday Cake Tonight, June 11

Dear Go Players,

Although Andrew will not be teaching tonight, the Go Center will be open at 7:00 p.m., and we will be having cake in honor of Go Seigen's 100th birthday.  Go Seigen (清源)is living in Japan.  He is often considered the greatest player of the 20th Century.  Go Seigen was a 12 year old living in China when our founder, Kaoru Iwamoto, first played him.  From what I've read, Iwamoto may have been the first Japanese professional to play him.  Go Seigen moved to Japan from China when he was 14, in 1928, to study and play Go.  By then, he was already of professional strength.  More information is at Sensei's Library, one of my favorite websites:

http://senseis.xmp.net/?GoSeigen

If somebody is brave enough to do a game review of one of Go Seigen's games, that would be great.  Otherwise we will just have informal study and games until 9 pm.

Regards,

Brian

Dear Go Players,

The Go Center will be open Wednesday Night, June 11,  to celebrate Go Seigen’s 100th Birthday, at 7:00 p.m.  There will be cake.  I see from a previous message that Andrew can’t make it, but I’m sure we can find a volunteer to replay one of Go Seigen’s games.  There will also be time to play your own games.

[Seattle Go Center] DDK Class Tomorrow: 5-4 Joseki Choices

Hi Everyone!
This week's lecture will be similar to last week's in that we will be
reviewing how to choose the right joseki when approaching; however
instead of reviewing all of the choices in 5-3 joseki we will be in turn
looking at choices in 5-4 corners. We will be both reviewing the
options you have as the approacher as well as the approachee.

I hope to see you there!

Not really. I have my hands full with Delta Green and Mike's been busy with Atomic Robo. But we want to put it together as soon as we're able.

Re: [ORE] Augment & Dice Pools

You roll 10d max, always. OTOH, you can drop extra dice to make called shots and attempt other such effects.

Do I roll my 6d, then call out the augment and roll 6d? Or am I limited to 4d for a total of 10d?

In the latter case, I could still declare an extra called shot, roll 4d (well set one and roll three), and then roll the augment for 6d, yes?

[ORE] Nemesis ebooks

I have added ePub and Mobi versions of NEMESIS, our free One-Roll Engine horror game.

The ePub/Mobi conversion was pretty fast, basically going from Word to Sigil to Calibre and done, because I don't have time to do a ton of work on it. If anyone feels ambitious enough to clean up whatever needs cleaning up for better compatibility or any other issues that come up, I'll add your name to the credits. But you probably should announce it here just in case more than one person takes a crack at it.

[Seattle Go Center] More outreach in International District

Dear Go Teachers,

We have been asked to teach and demonstrate the game of Go in Hing Hay Park  in the International District on Monday evenings in July.  The events are being organized by the Seattle Chamber Music Society.  They will provide a table and chairs, and free music.  The Chamber Music Society will be broadcasting a live concert that they are presenting at Benaroya Hall at the same time.  (In other words, they will be setting up a sound system in the park, so people can hear the live concert that is happening in the downtown concert hall.)  They are inviting other cultural groups to attend as well.

We would be teaching from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.  After the concert begins at 8:00, we can keep playing, but there should be less talking.  It should be very pleasant.  Please let me know if you can help out on July 7, 14, 21 or 28.

Note: we will be continuing our Wednesday outreach at the Uwajimaya Food Court in the International District on Wednesday evenings.  We meet from 6-8 p.m. – look for Dennis Wheeler.

Cheers,

Brian
