Thank you both, have managed to keep the NPC alive by having him arrested by a special section of the FBI and then making the players break into prison to talk to him.
I have also created the Useful "switcheroo" power though because it is so much fun. Will be unveiling that on the players this weekend so will have to see how it goes.
