Re: [ORE] [Wild Talents] Invulnerable vs non physical attacks

I was unclear because I wrote "yes" early on in my response...

Whether the Useful quality for Invulnerable works on all attacks is really a judgement call. Based on a reading of the rules, I would interpret the Useful to only work on physical attacks. So, to protect against Telepathy, you'd have to buy a second Useful quality to make you invulnerable to non-physical attacks.

But it's a judgement call. If you think it's fair enough for that one Useful to apply to all attacks, go for it. Or, if you think it's a good idea for the player to have to buy a second Useful, but you and the players are new to the game and it wouldn't be fair to penalize the player, give the player the extra Useful for free as a "we're learning the game" award. Then, give the equivalent points to the other players to bump up their characters, too.

To answer the question, assuming you either allow the one Useful on Invulnerable to work on Telepathy, or your player buys/is awarded a second Useful against non-physical attacks (Telepathy, ghosts, etc.), 3hd vs a 5x10 attack would first remove 3 dice from the attacking set. The 2 Killing and 2 Shock would be reduced to 1 Shock and 2 Shock, for a total of 3 Shock. Of course that's 3 Shock to the head/critical parts, so the character's going unconscious if he's hit a second time.

In the case of 2hd against 4hd fire, yes, the fire overwhelmed him. He can stand in a bonfire without a problem. He can rush into a burning house without much fear. However, he's not going to survive running into a blast furnace.

So just to be clear 3he invulnerable vs a 5X10 telepathy attack you would allow that to be defended down to a 2x10 dealing say 2 shock 2 lethal. Then reduced to 3 shock Just not outright ignored caused useful invulnerable.

In the fires case to be clear my thinking is the 2HD invulnerable useful would try to make you invulnerable to fire but the 4HD fire is just to intense so the har and lar are the secondary line of defense.
