[Seattle Go Center] September schedule (closed Labor Day; Nick DDK class returns 9-23; etc.)

Hello fellow Go enthusiasts,

As summer fades into fall, the regularly scheduled hours at the Go
Center are changing a little.

Mondays -- open primarily for (free!) classes; casual games are ok.
9-02: We we closed for Labor Day.
9-07 and 9-16: Drew Barnett teaches "Go Basics" class, 6:30-8:30 PM.
9-23 and 9-30: Nick Sibicky teaches "Double-Digit Kyu" class, 6:30-8:30 PM.
Nick Sibicky's DDK class will be scheduled for Mondays in October and
through the fall.

Tuesdays -- Our most popular day -- the "largest weekly gathering of Go
players in North America (and probably the Western Hemisphere)!™"
Thirty to forty Go players of all levels share bread fresh from the
oven, casual games of Go, and free instruction for beginners. Open
1:00-10:00 PM.

Wednesdays -- We're currently closed on Wednesdays, and we're exploring
options for opening Wednesday evenings in September. In October, we're
expecting to reboot the "Programming Computer Go A.I." Wednesday evening
class, based on the book "Deep Learning and the Game of Go"
(https://www.manning.com/books/deep-learning-and-the-game-of-go), so
watch for details.

Thursdays -- A great day for beginners! We're open for casual games
2:00-9:00 PM, and Larry Eclipse teaches (free!) "Go for Complete
Beginners" class, 6:30-8:30 PM.

Fridays -- Closed.

Saturdays -- Our second most popular day. Players of all levels can
find a game, and Dennis Wheeler is available to teach beginners. Open
1:00-8:00 PM; and Shogi players often congregate 1:00-5:00 PM. Brandon
Barton teaches Shogi on the 3rd Saturday of the month.

Sundays -- Closed, except for tournaments.

And speaking of tournaments -- Big thanks Go to Peter Kron for directing
the (free!) monthly AGA ratings tournament yesterday. We had 19
players, some of whom played only one or two rounds. We had Frank
Brown, who's currently listed first in the US for tournament attendance
this year; and four players who'd never played a rated game before. We
had players ranging in strength from 15k to 5d. And we had a wide age
range.

And that was for the free ratings tournament. I can't wait to see what
it'll be like at the 24th Anniversary Tournament on October 6! (I'll
send a real announcement by Friday.)

See you soon at the Go Center,

PS - Why did the Go-playing locksmith walk away from the job?

(A customer wanted ten new keys.)

Yes, I'm still recycling old Go jokes -- which I guess is a desperate
cry for some new Go jokes!
