[ORE] Re: ORE Character Creator & Roller - live

Yeah, it's working again. Thank you.
I was also unsure if it was 1 or 2 points, but after asking around and re-reading that chapter I came across it actually being 1 point per skill die. One of those things easy to forget after a while without reading or playing.

On the skill point costs, I thought it was 2pts per skill die... Happy to make an update if I messed that up though. (Haven't played ORE for a while).

[Seattle Go Center] Osaka Online Go School

Hello Seattle Go Players,

We are boosting the signal on Maeda Sensei's Osaka International Go School starting next week.  Every month there are 4 games with other students (all games reviewed), 2 lectures, and one simul game with a pro (also reviewed).  The cost is $100/mo if you sign up for more than one month, and there is a price for just viewing lectures and game reviews.  This is from the AGA EJournal, with link to the web site to sign up:

After the popular Osaka Go Camp was cancelled for the 2020 year due to COVID-19, organizer Maeda Ryo 6P has decided to organize and open a new online Go school for players of all levels. The International Osaka Go School will allow members to play four reviewed league games amongst each other, play one teaching game with a professional, and attend two lectures per month. Teachers include Maeda Ryo 6P, Francis Meyer 1P, and Ting Li 1P of the Kansai-Kiin. Interested players should visit the International Osaka Go School’s website for more details and to sign up. Any players who sign up for two full months of the school will be eligible for a discount of 10000JPY off of registration for the next Osaka Go Camp, to be held during the summer of 2021.

Bill Chiles, having attended the Osaka Go Camp three times, says it should be quite fun, a nice encouraging atmosphere, and excellent pro explanations and reviews.

Cheers,

Brian

[ORE] Re: ORE Character Creator & Roller - live

Glad to hear you're finding it useful. Sorry about the outage. It's running on free cloud hosting and when my apps together exceed a threshold, they shut down. I'll go through and shut a bunch of the other ones down, which should help.

[ORE] Re: ORE Character Creator & Roller - live

Hi Cgeist7
I have been using frequently recently and there are a few things that I wanted to say.
1) It's really useful. I've been using it for any character creation instead of using the official character sheet since it's a lot more useful and clear for beginners. most of all when playing online, which I've been doing a couple of times.
2)  I took a while to realise how to add expert/master dice, but now I got the hang of it. I just don't know if the fact that I have to decide which number I want defined by the special dice has to be chosen at the creation of that hyperskill is as useful as it could be, but I've been rolling outside anyway so it went well.
3) For Reign I don't see anyway to create the exoteric skills/martial paths/spells unless using the powers which were clearly made with Wild Talents in mind. Once again it wasn't that bad since I prefer to hand the players those special abilities in an extra sheet.
4) The one thing I think could be reviewed is the point-buy cost of each thing. The skills are costing 2 points instead of one. The rest seems to be right.
5) The only sad part is that it is down again xD. Is that a normal thing to happen in regular periods of time?

Thank you for your good work and if you could see how it goes back up again i would be ecstatic : )

[Seattle Go Center] 75th Anniversary of Atom Bomb Game

Dear Members,

August 6, 2020 is the 75th anniversary of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima.  Our generous benefactor, Mr. Kaoru Iwamoto 9p, was almost killed by this bomb.  His Honinbo championship game with Mr. Utaro Hashimoto was moved at the last moment to the outskirts of Hiroshima, about 10 kilometers upwind from the center of the destruction. The blast disrupted the beginning of the last day their three-day game, but nobody in the playing room was badly hurt, so they set up again and finished.  Only later, as they walked to their host's house, did they get the terrible news of what happened as refugees came streaming from the center of Hiroshima.

Iwamoto Sensei's wartime experiences motivated him to continue to share and teach the game of Go as a pathway for international understanding.

Back in 1926, he was one of the Japanese pros who encouraged the Chinese prodigy Wu Qingyuan to come to Japan.  Mr. Wu, better known as Go Seigen, became one of the strongest players of the 20th Century.  After the war, which ended in 1945, Iwamoto Sensei devoted a lot of his efforts to teaching and outreach. He still played tournament Go, successfully defending his Honinbo title in 1947, and playing in tournaments until the mid 1970's, but it wasn't his only focus. For example, in the 1970's, James Kerwin of Minnesota, the first western pro in the Nihon Ki-in, was one of Iwamoto's students.

Iwamoto Sensei's success in the Tokyo real estate market in the 1980's allowed him to expand on his ability to teach and share Go internationally by endowing Go Centers in Seattle, New York, Sao Paulo, and Amsterdam. Thanks to Iwamoto Sensei's generosity, Seattle has had a Go Center for 25 years. We were happy to have him visit us in 1995 and 1996.

The other player in the Atom Bomb Game, Mr. Hashimoto, also helped the Seattle Go Center significantly, if indirectly. He was the founder of the Kansai Ki-in, the professional Go association in the region of Japan around Osaka. The Kansai Ki-in has sponsored many trips by the professional Ryo Maeda to Seattle. Mr. Maeda is one of our favorite teachers.

Like Iwamoto Sensei, the Seattle community seeks to promote the crucial necessity of international understanding through its beautiful yearly memorial to the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bomb victims. "From Hiroshima to Hope" generally uses floating lanterns at Green Lake — except that this year, it is a virtual event. To find links, go to Hiroshima to Hope.

You can see the Atom Bomb Game by going to the bottom of our blog post. It is the 3rd Japanese Honinbo, title match #2.  Mr. Iwamoto had black.  (Mr. Hashimoto won the game; Mr. Iwamoto eventually won the championship.)  The last move before the atomic bomb blast was 106, which was played at the end of the 2nd day, Aug 5.  The game was long form – each side had 13 hours. That is why it took three days. On the third day the players had just finished setting up and replaying the previous days' moves when the blast came.  This game is displayed on the outside west wall of the Seattle Go Center. In this setting, it is played out to move 74.  There is a detailed analysis of the game in Modern Master Games, Vol. 1, The Dawn of Tournament Go by Rob van Zeijst and Richard Bozulich (Kiseido Publishing)

Best,

Brian
